McMahon has never seemed like a good coach to me. And to judge "coaching" I mean the total package...recruiting....selling the program to LSU fans...improving the players...improving team play, etc. Two obvious issues that stick out to me is in three years in SEC play, LSU seems to be get outrebounded in almost every game and commits more turnovers than the opponent in almost every game. So far, LSU has lost both battles in both games and I certainly expect that to continue the rest of the season. No need to even get into scoring droughts this team has had in so many games in the last 3 years. I think most people said in year 3 (this is year 3), if LSU doesn't make the NCAA tournament, he should be fired. I certainly am in that group.

It’s projection, these guys just anoint a coach and all their opinions are working backwards from there and if you don’t agree with that you automatically have a personal vendetta against him. So it maybe an optimistic way of looking at things but it’s not actually evaluating what’s happening. I’ll be honest, I didn’t like the hire because I’d seen his teams play at Murray and didn’t think he had an edge or identity which I believe you have to have at this job but i didn’t want him to fail and I wasn’t one of these guys looking in the rear view mirror wishing for WW to come back. I was skeptical for a reason and he’s confirmed my suspicions ever since he’s been here. It’s not even really a results based skepticism either, I was looking at how we played the game so that when he got better players it would it translate to wins which I believed it wouldn’t.

He actually hasn’t recruited that poorly. I want him to succeed so much. One of Wade’s flaws was roster construction. He’d sign some highly rated guys but they didn’t always mesh strategically. McMahon has recruited well especially under the circumstances but we have a bunch of guys who seem to be “just guys” that don’t really compliment each other. A lot of guys with similar profiles (long, lean, athletic, yet can’t rebound or shoot worth a lick). Brady had similar issues early on but was a good teacher of defense and rebounding before he got lazy post-final 4.
