I would consider 7-5 a bad year. I still believe 9-3 is our bottom line if the defense gets back on track. I think Leavitt will continue to improve and if we can continue to run the ball and play solid defense then playoffs are still the goal.

Lane was hired to fix our offense and lead us into the portal era. He got to keep defensive continuity, so it wasn't an entire overhaul. He got to bring his entire offensive staff to Baton Rouge with him. He got all the financing he could've asked for to build a roster. He landed the #1 portal QB/player.
If he turns in a 7-5 performance, that is absolutely a failure and people on this board would've burned Brian Kelly's house down for that result. Hell, it's why he got fired. Kiffin should 100% be held to the same standard of production that Kelly was.
Btw, barring some catastrophic injuries, I don't think LSU goes 7-5.

It’s not that easy to just recreate the Indiana model. If it was, why didn’t all schools do it?

7-5 would be both a surprise and a disappointment. I still predict 9-3.

Because most schools can't financially afford to compete. 90% of schools cannot play at the elite level NIL poker table. LSU can. Not saying we need to win a natty year one, but 7-5 is in no way whatsoever acceptable and Lane should feel heat if it happens.

The $50 mil roster would be the kicker for me.
Apples and oranges to compare CLK's first year to any previous coach with that much cash in hand.
I'd be pissed, but still behind CLK. Depth is just damn near impossible these days. Even a big stack of money can't solve that.
CLK is the right hire for this era, so I'm ridin regardless of this year's record.

There are going to be a LOT of 7-9 win teams in the SEC this year. Our schedule is absolutely absurd but so are a lot of others in the league.
I think sustained success is going to become increasingly difficult and will hinge on years where you have a top notch QB.
We have a LOT of talent on this team and will lose a ton of it to the NFL next year. The margin between 7 and 11 wins is paper thin. Having a Chambliss or Jeremiah Smith in the years when you have an overall top roster (like we have now) are the years you will have to capitalize.
These days you can lose 3 games all year and not be in contention for the playoffs bc you lost by 1 score to 3 top 7 teams in league play and end up tied for 6 or 7th in the league and texas bowl bound while actually having a pretty bad arse team.
We don’t currently have a TM7 or JB9 or JC/JJ or JD4and1 difference maker. it’s going to come down to absolutely perfect execution, fundamentals, coaching AND some good fortune (which every championship team ever has gotten a scoop of at some point in the season.)
I just think naming a number of unacceptable losses oversimplifies things.

I wouldn’t be shocked, but I’d be a little disappointed.
Would be totally unacceptable outside of numerous other season ending injuries contributing to that record. I expect 9-3 or 8-4 at worst. With this roster, coaching staff, etc. anything less would be an absolute failure.

And I'm just asking the "positiger" folks - meaning those of you who think things will just be hunky dory with 8-4 or 7-5 - that's 3 or 4 MORE losses. And I think 8-4 is HIGHLY likely.
This place is going to burn down after the next loss, much less 3 more.

Whether you like it or not. The internet isn't this fake mystical place. Its the modern times town square and young people LIVE on it. Their entire culture comes from the internet and its trends.
The online narrative and the "brand" on the internet being affected negatively 100% can affect recruiting.
Stud football players dont want to go play for a school that everyone clowns all the time. LSU keeps losing and they'll keep getting clowned online. That cause and effect matters much more than alot of the "cool kids" on here would like to admit.
Easton Royal watched Texas downed Ohio State when they were number 1 and there may have been more people in that stadium at the end than when it started. It was absolutely LIT as frick in that stadium after they beat Ohio State.
That same week LSU struggled against LA Tech. Then dropped the Ole Miss game.......not a good look

This. I’m seeing a lot of excuses now after all the shite talk this fanbase and coach threw out there over the off season. Ole Miss delivered and exposed LSU and the golden boy.. lots of ifs, buts. But all of those excuses won’t bring that L to a W. Kiffin is in over his head and time will show that.
