re: Ed O’s recruiting classes were 5th, 4th, and 3rd, who will match that?

Its not about the classes. LSU is going to be top 5-10 every year. It is about development and roster balance. Miles and O both have shitty balance. Miles neglected the Bigs; O has neglected the O-Bigs. You can have all of WRs in the world and you won't do shite without the Bigs.

Is Woodward getting LSU a coach who will match O’s recruiting classes?
YOU BEING AN ORGERON COCK RIDER made this comment as if Orgeron was the ONLY person that could deliver that even questioning Aranda despite we know Aranda brought in talent like Queen from tiny Livonia and made them first round picks. YOU ALWAYS MAKE IT ABOUT ORGERON.
The fricking fact is Jerry DiNardo brought in a shite load of talent before Saban and we know Saban brought in talent before Miles. You would have to go back to Curly Hallman.

Both were well known for being great recruiters, that was not always the case at LSU. Would like to see top 5 talent continue to come here. SEC is much more competitive recruiting wise.
Bull shite on your statement. La has 1 major university that has won 3 national titles in the last 18 years and played for another. 2 were won by morons. The other was lost by a moron to the same fricking guy that won the first won. LSU RECRUITS ITSELF.

And yet had zero top-flight OL.

It seems like at the end of the signing season, we would continue to take four stars at positions we were already deep in (especially skill positions), and we wondered why.
This was particularly confusing b/c we had read needs on OL and LB, for example, that were unmet, sometimes years in a row.
Now its plain that Ed was grabbing stars to bump up the overall recruiting standings, knowing that many/ most fans only look at the final standings (total and avg. stars) and NOT whether we were recruiting smartly to needs.
That's why OP like this one still brag on 4th 5th place finishes despite gaping holes in recruiting.

winning big with big ranked classes the flip side of successful recruiting.

It’s nice to get top recruiting classes but I’m fine if they get a coach that gets 2 stars…as long as he can coach his recruits into 5 star college athletes.
Posted on 10/19/21 at 5:15 pm to TrueTigerTale
Doesn’t matter how good his classes were ranked he squandered all that talent! He isn’t even ranked in the top 25 and some clowns still want him ??. I would say 15 percent of LSU fans are intelligent sports fans the rest are sunshine pumping, I
Love O and les miles till I die as- hats

Truth is while the classes were rated highly. There were more than a few misses.

I’d love to start getting some more Memphis and Arkansas recruits.

I think this is a bit of an oversimplification. You’re making it sound like he’s “grabbing stars” in the sense that he’s recruiting highly rated players solely to boost the recruiting ranking. But in reality, the 247 rankings are heavily weighted towards the top of the class. The best recruit counts for 100%, the 5th best recruit counts for 80%, the 10th best recruit counts for 30%, and the 15th best recruit counts for about 5%.
So, for example, a guy like Koy Moore doesn’t really impact your class ranking much despite being a 4-star recruit, because he’s the 16th-rated player in the class.
I don’t think Orgeron has taken all of these highly-rates skill position players to boost the rankings - I think he’s taken them because they were good players. It’s a red herring. The issue is just that he’s whiffed on the top OL prospects. I do think we have some promising young guys at OT in Dumervil and Dellinger, not to mention Campbell next year. But it’s too little, too late. And the interior OL recruiting has been worse.

It’s not just that they ‘transfer’. They leave in droves as juniors even when they won’t even make good in the NFL. That’s a culture issue.
Posted on 10/19/21 at 7:47 pm to TrueTigerTale
The best question is how many of those recruits are still on the roster after one year?
Posted on 10/19/21 at 7:56 pm to TrueTigerTale
I assume the next coach will have access to the same check book that Coach O did, so my guess is that the next coach up will achieve similar results.

And none of those was nearly as good as the one he took over from Miles. The 2017 class was the best in LSU history, and it was only ranked 7.

was definitely way too many questionable takes a few classes in a row from 2018-2019 that bit us in the butt this season.

So yes they were ranked highly at the time but haven’t amounted to much.

115th, 114th and 113th in Offensive Line recruiting.

What’s amazing is with all of the transfers, injuries, and misses, LSU still managed to dominate Fla with their offense. Though O missed and loss talent, he hit on enough talent that they began starting as freshmen and sophomores against a very talented Fla team.
