O as head coach originally was a good idea when his salary was 1/2 that of all the other head coaches. O working for 1/2 price so he can put good people around him was a great idea because we all knew he is not the reason for a championship offense or defense. He 100% relies on his coordinators and by him working for less leaves money for LSU to go out and pay for the top coordinators.
no it wasn’t. It was clear from day one it would always end in disaster. You aren’t going to change a hot head like coach O at this point in his career. It’s who he is

Money also isn’t an issue. Coach Os salary isn’t going to stop us from paying top dollar for coordinators. The problem is no good one wants to work for O

Exactly. People are willing to overlook coach O acting like an idiot off the field when we’re winning but it gets real old if we start losing like we are

I still to this day cannot believe 2019 happened after this abomination. It hardly makes any sense to me.

I was happy to get rid of Les. Jimbo wasn't coming and Herman was just using us. I can't recall any other homerun hires. Ed obviously just can't help himself from being IRL trashy and a HC without a clue. We got 2019 from Ed, but that's over and he's reverted back to his Ole Miss days with smashing cans on his head amongst other things. He needs to go.

I certainly hope Woody goes after the 2 best candidates in Lane or Hugh.

So did the two previous coaches. 1 was fired for being mediocre like we are now.

He definitely gets credit for that, even if all he did was stay the hell out of Brady/Burrow's way but that credit doesn't last to infinity. Once the playmakers and great football minded coaches of that 2019 team left the program, what kind of results did O turn in? I really thought 2020 was just a fluke with the Rona and multiple players opting out. It's looking more and more like a .500 season would've been pretty close to reality regardless of the other outside issues.

2016 Ed was humble...because he had to be. Even as the interim he knew he likely wasn't going to get a serious look for the HC job. He also knew getting the LSU job would probably be his last-best chance at ever getting a power conf. HC job again. So he IMMEDIATELY went to work building a campaign for the job. He reversed all of the things the former players, current players, and media disliked about Miles in an effort to get them all behind his campaign. Even then, he wasn't the first choice. But it was enough to capitalize off of an incredibly lazy AD once the AD's top choice fell through.

Ed, at that point, was smart enough to know the fan reaction to his hiring was lukewarm, at best. He hired Canada because he needed a "name" after his biggest campaign promise...Kiffin as OC...didn't work out. He didn't know or understand Canada's offense and once MSU kicked LSU's arse in game three the "honeymoon" for Ed was over...so he immediately needed someone to blame. That was Canada...which directly led to the Troy debacle. Ed smartly got out of the way following the Troy loss, but still ended up dumping Canada (at great expense).

At that point his mantra went from "I'm going to hire the best coordinators" to "I'm going the hire the best coordinators who won't dismiss my lack of football insight." THAT'S why Ensminger, reluctantly, got the OC job. A job he really didn't want. The addition of Brady had EVERYTHING to do with Ensminger desperately wanting someone to share the OC burden with him AND acknowledging the offense needed new concepts someone else could bring if it was going to succeed. The Brady Burrow marriage was perfect.

Then Brady left for a better job. O was not thrilled. Aranda also left...but that was going to allow O to run HIS dream defense. So that loss wasn't so bad. In 2020 O's mindset was to get older, less ambitious coordinators who, hopefully wouldn't leave LSU for a better gig after one season. Coaching ability was second on the list of qualities. It failed miserably.

So in 2021 O decided to "repeat the Brady model". If it worked once, it would work again, right? So far the early results aren't good.

But the ultimate problem is O doesn't know what he is looking for. He doesn't really know what kind of offense he wants to run from an approach/personnel/conceptual level. He just wants one that scores a lot of points. On defense he wants a "USC attacking 4-3"...but he doesn't really think about how that might work with his personnel and vs. today's offenses.

The reasons for his Coordinator hires are generally surface level...because that is about the extent of his football understanding (relative to most power conf. coaches). He's not hiring the "best guys to do what THEY do." He's hiring the "best" guys to do somewhat what they do, but in the confines of what he wants to do." Right now it looks like a mess.

2016 Orgeron had no leverage. He had to beg and plead to get the LSU job and do whatever was necessary to get it. 2021 O thinks he knows what is best from a gameplay/approach standpoint when in reality he is still the same coach he was in 2016.

this is really bad news

I wonder how his sons feel about all of that?

Did Kelly cheat or something? It's really upsetting to see the HC have to go through a divorce

it's tough on everyone...

I think Jimbo Fisher had to get out of FSU just help reset his life...I understand, I think I do anyways...

I've seen what divorce can do...it takes time to heal

yikes. Another in a long line of bad takes. This is the same poster who demanded we hire Bianco because he loves LSU.

We have changed the offense 5/6 years of has been here and changed the defense 2/2 years since Aranda left.

You can’t keep turning over coaches and then say “well it’s not his fault we had coaching turnover”

O is chasing the ghost of 2019 while the best OC in the country is coaching at Arkansas.

Ed O put together the 2019 team. Credit due....

But if he cannot sustain it, then replace him. I think we need to see how this team progresses this year week-to-week. They were better Saturday than against UCLA, but they are still lacking in many areas.
