On the 3rd and 1 run to nowhere, USC's corners were 10 yards off the receivers, like they were much of the game. Throw to the flat for 3 or 4 and move on.

Nope, ran right into 7 defenders.

This drive in general is when I started to feel queasy. Best oline in the country with a veteran back-you have to make this first down.

yeah I don’t hate the call.
1 yard. that doesn’t even have to be a good run.

they were throwing a big pass rush on passing downs. that was the problem with the runs. many times Nuss didn't have a chance - there were at least 2 instances when he missed the pass or threw to the wrong guy.

the playcalling killed us. they were giving us the pass on 1st down for 7 or more yards EVERY TIME!

Big missed assignment here

Also just an absolutely awful play call. Worst of the game. And they hurried it up which was pointless and made the play call that much more predictable.

Drive 1

1st & GOAL: Nuss needs to keep that ball.

2nd & GOAL: Great throw and catch just missed by 6 inches.

3rd & GOAL: Nuss throws screen when he would have had a wide open Lacy in the corner for a TD.

4th & GOAL: Blitz right at our new center...take points, especially when you elect to receive (which is the dumbest shite you can do in football)

First on the first drive there was something Nuss could have done. After spinning away from the blitz there is a perfect pocket and all he needed to do was step up and #4 was breaking open in the back of the endzone. he also could have run to his left between his 2 lineman and probably run for a TD. No judging as this was his first regular season start but it was there if he keeps his head. A sack there wouldn't have hurt us anymore than throwing the ball away. You also missed a big pass play to anderson in the second half with 4:00 minutes left in the game. Does that sound conservative? Right before the 14 yd pass to anderson. These people are just bitching to be bitching. We passed as much as we ran in 2nd half. And with Hilton out and his sub getting injured in 1st qtr we didn't have the deep threats we needed. Nuss also missed Tredez Green on a deep route that could have resulted in a big play but he felt the pressure too early and threw off his back foot when he didn't have to. Those are throws Moss made. Like the dart he threw while falling backwards from weeks blitzing him. Like I have said 4-5 plays go differently and we are talking about an LSU victory. Hell if Weeks hold on to the batted ball USC doesn't score to take the lead. If Nuss hits Green or Anderson on the bad passes we are probably talking about an LSU victory. If we recover one of those fumbles. If their receiver doesn't make 2 spectacular one handed catches. This game was that close. Yes it sucks we didn't win it but losing a close game to a good team isn't the end of the world.

The first drive misfire was like Groundhog Day with last years opening drive vs FSU.

nope, got stopped at the goal line with 1 yard to go. Had 1st and goal from the 5 and couldn’t punch it in.

I will offer that when you knowingly have a poor defensive team that you can’t count on for many, if any, stops that taking the opening kick is a terrible move.

At that point, the game is about “holding serve” like tennis. If you don’t score on the opening drive, you are essentially “behind”.

You also essentially have to be ahead at half time, and if not you face the possibility of being down two scores the first time you touch the ball in the second half.

have a 12 play drive taking up 7:30 and coming up with 0 points? What was THAT all about? And why couldn't we just kick the da*m FG?

Not taking the FG was yet another terrible call. Was this not the third opener in a row that early in the game we have had good drives that came away with no points?

Obviously we don’t know that the game would have otherwise played out the exact same way to say LSU would have been driving for the game winning field goal and run the clock out.

If it was fourth and goal at the one, or fourth and 1 at the 3, maybe you go for it in that situation. But with a QB who is no running threat, you’re pretty one dimensional on that play call.

We ran the play with Taylor running to the flat once. And with Anderson twice.

Yeah now i remember that one.

That looked like our 2
point conversion pkay we ran in 2022 against bama. imagine he would have rolled out if he kept it.

It's never a good decision. Even with a 5th year starter and two first round WRs you could end up scoring before the half with a chance to expand the lead out of the half.

Meh, it works if one block is made, that should have been easily made.

this is the one i scratched my head on in the stadium. 4yards on a run on 1st down, when you're trying to establish the run? i'm pounding again until you stop that. i think the incomplete on 2nd was in the flats to taylor maybe, good play, poor throw. but having to execute that, which we should 100 out of 100 times but here we didn't, is why after getting 4 on 1st down, at that time in the game, i'm pounding again.

It’s a good analysis but the issue is being predictable in play calling. We ran on first and second down into a box that was designed to stop the run. Then we have to execute a short to medium pass on 3rd down which everyone knew was coming.

What most wanted to see was to stay aggressive in a tight game and throw the ball on first or second down when it’s obvious USC is bringing an extra guy into the box. We played into their hands because they knew we wanted to pound the run. BK has to learn to keep his foot on the pedal in big games or we will keep getting beat.

No Sammy, the biggest issue was LSU decided to run on first down 70% of the time in the second half, compared to 50% of the time in the first half.

You keep saying we did well rushing.....well our last NINE attempts in the 4th quarter, we gained a total of 15 yards....or 1.67 yards per carry......all this bullshite about averages by you and others....was skewed by two plays totaling 49 yards on our TD drive in the second half....the last 9 carries again, netted 15 yards....that was 3 possessions to end the game....also, outside of those two plays on the scoring drive, we ran it 11 times for a total of 22 yards in the second half...so you can drop this bs that we ran well.

again, there is perception vs reality.

We were 4 for 10 converting 3rd down when we threw the ball.

5/12 on 3rd and 4th down.

we completed 10 passes.

10 for 12 passing on 3rd and 4th down and only 5 of them were enough for a first down.

Exactly 1 drive ended on a run play.

0 ended in 2 rushed in a row.
we just consistently threw short of the line to gain.
