we are gonna look at the last series of each drive we didn’t score a TD and see what happened.

we had 10 drives including the last one which was an interception.

Drive 1: we have 1st and goal on the 8. Lose a yard. incomplete. 6 yard pass incomplete. 2nd down was almost a TD, lacey goes up for the ball and Cb does a good job pushing him OOB. Last play we miss a Blitz, Nuss throws a bad pass of his back foot but i’m not sure what he could have done more.

Drive 2: we gain 4 yards in 2 rushes to set up 3rd and 6. complete a pass for 1 yard. I think that was a play designed to get Anderson in space and it didn’t work.

Drive 3: TD

Drive 4: 1 and 10 at the 32.
Rush for 0 gain. Incomplete Pass
4 yards pass in 3rd and 10. FG

HALFTIME

Drive 5: gain 7 on 2 rushes to set up 3 and short. Nuss throws for 2 yards. Taylor is open for a 1st. this doesn’t look like a play designed to go to only Daniels. I think this is on Nuss.

Drive 6: TD

Drive 7: Emery Runs for 4 on first.
incomplete pass on second. 3 yard check down to Williams on 3rd and 6.

Drive 8: Emory loses 4. Nuss throws for 14 to set up 3rd and 1. Emery gets stuffed in 3rd and 1.

Drive 9: Emery Run for 2. Incomplete pass. incomplete pass. FG.

Drive 10: Pick but it was sorta. prayer anyway.

I think there has been a lot said about us blowing the game trying to run the ball in the second half, and honestly, I don’t see it. there is 1 drive where that is true.

The biggest issue was throwing behind the sticks on 3rd down and hoping the WR or RB could get YAC for the first. And some of that is in the Coaches, some of that is on Nuss and Some of that is USC playing good defense.

We played two differently coached halves. The second one killed us.

good info in this list.

I will say that my problem was not running the ball per se. It was running the ball out of shotgun on short yardage situations. just makes no sense to me.

Big missed assignment here.

Calling a run towards a TE whom you have openly admitted to not being a great blocker yet on arguably the most important play of the game is quite the decision.

It wasn’t toward him? It was toward Dellinger, and Campbell. Pimpton whiffed and let the DE cross right in front of his face on the right side of the line.

There was another issue here. I think we rushed the play because it was 3rd and short and tried to line up and quick snap before the defense was ready. Seems this fails every time we do it…

it wasn’t the TE blew the block and the defender ran it down from the backside

With the way the defense crashed the line like they knew the play. Imagine if LSU had run anything other than a dive. A TE screen, or quick dump to the TE on a seam, a quick pass to Lacy (who people have pointed out had about 15 yards of cushion).

eta: Or if they had run anything to outside to the right, 7/8 players defensive players in the box would have taken themselves out of the play.

So, basically 7 of 9 drives were killed by poor 3rd down and/or 3rd and short execution.

Was livid throughout the game for this.

Some were check downs, but half of them were by design to throw short of the sticks. Absolutely maddening.

Don't forget the abortion of a hurry up attempt at 3rd and 1.

shite show

The tone was set already on the first drive misfire. Win the toss, accept (good decision, IMO, it payed off handsomely last year with JD), have a 12 play drive taking up 7:30 and coming up with 0 points? What was THAT all about?

And why couldn't we just kick the da*m FG?

I don’t hate going for it on 4th and short at the goal line.

Fail and they start backed up in their one.

Defense did what they needed to do. Held a high powered offense to 20 points. I don’t count the last TD. Even if you do count it, it’s still holding a team who can score points to under 30. I’ll start with that.

The offense just wasn’t aggressive enough at the right times or period. We didn’t even use our WRs much in the second half. We passed behind the LOS entirely too much. If we going to run the darn ball then we need to put our two TEs in the game and run/pass off of that. Add an extra OL and TE if they jamming the box up and run like Les Miles did or just pick unconventional times to run the darn ball.

Have quick hot routes for 3rd and short. Here’s the 3 major things we should he working our butts off on. 3rd and short or 3rd down plays, red zone plans and finally explosive plays where we score from 60-30 yards away. We will have to have the ability to attack defenses on 1st and 2nd down with explosive plays. If not then we will just see loaded boxes all day with no real threat for a defense to back out.

To me the biggest killer was the 1st and 3rd down play calls after the turnover on downs.

I would have like to see the RPO flat route to Mason to combat their ends crashing down on the running back. Route was open all day.

i’d have to watch film to really know but there don’t seem to be any RPO element to the offense.

We ran the play with Taylor running to the flat once. And with Anderson twice.
