As did Pat Pete, Jamal Adams, etc. I wish it was still like that CFB was way more fun.

Bowl games meant a little bit then…now I don’t blame these dudes going pro for opting out one bit…this game gives nothing to these dudes…it’s an exhibition game…give the young dudes a chance to shine.

Yeah he played against UCF! We didn't have any DBs but he played his arse off.

Versus UCF. Burrow got rocked on a blind-side hit. Dude got pissed off and went on a tear...for the next year plus.

Saints fans cry that he only played in the Bowl game so he had the opportunity to take cheap shots on UCF players.

With the CFP, the other bowls basically turned into the NIT.

They used to mean something to more people.

I agree, I liked it alot better too but this was an obvious repercussion.

He made a personal decision and decided to play and I appreciate that. If Devin White had made the decision to not play I would have also been fine with that.

It’s a personal decision that has zero impact on your life. I don’t get the outrage.

What's wrong with America is the people lacking depth and insist on making decisions in a vacuum. It is a perfectly reasonable, smart, and resonsible decision to not play in the Texas Bowl (given his specific circumstance).

If you REALLY can't see that, you're probably a lost cause anyway.

Ding, ding, ding
Greedy Williams decided not to play in the same bowl game. Said it had to do with wanting to make sure he could take care of his little girl. That's fine too.

I think family stuff drives a lot of the bowl opt in/out decisions. If you're going to be a high draft pick, you can sign with an agent and they'll float you an advance on your signing bonus/contract. If I was a 21, 22-year-old guy and I knew I could get an early taste and make sure my family had a nice Christmas, that would be bigger to me than the damn Texas Bowl.

Oh, there's no outrage at all, it's all about the mindset of where our society is as a whole. I'm just stating a fact, he had more to lose than anyone in the last 10 years at LSU and yet he played. Everybody talks about the injury risk, well, they take a risk every time they go to practice or step on the field and yet this last game is different? I'm not a fan of the opt out, I'm not going to be overly critical of those guys but I will have more respect for the guys who play.

I was there about 30 rows up directly behind the LSU bench when that blind side of Joe happened. What the video doesn’t really emphasize is the UCF guy, after Joe is down, makes a motion likes he is spitting on him on the ground. Who knows, maybe he really did spit.

Regardless, it is impossible to describe the response of the LSU bench when that happened. It was epic. It was like with one swipe the player from UCF awoke our sleeping Tigers. The rest of the game was no contest.

There were many things during Joe’s time at LSU that contributed to the perfection that was the next season. Joe’s reported talk during his first meeting with his new teammates, his demonstration that he could actually call an audible at the line of scrimmage against Miami that led to a Brosette dash up the middle for a piece of cake touchdown, etc. I think that this moment when his teammates saw him go down on a dirty hit and then get up and take it all in stride welded him to his teammates and set the stage for all that was to come.

Remember when you used to go to the ball park and play the game just because it was fun…..

To be fair, there aren’t many people out there who could injure him. White is a big big man!

It was a New Years 6 game and the Fiesta Bowl which was a change up for LSU as it had been decades since we’d been to a big time bowl outside of New Orleans. If we were in the Texas Bowl that year, I don’t know that he plays in that. In any event, these kids get to do what they and their families think is best for them. Let it go.
