I don't think that is true, at all, if he wants to have a chance to coach again at a major school. Regardless of what happens with these NCAA investigations the necessity of providing benefits to top talent will continue. The kids, their families, the runners, AAU organizers, aren't just going to stop "negotiating" for their signatures. And there is too much money to be made by the schools to sink their basketball programs in an effort to be "virtuous."

Assuming for the sake of argument that Self, Wade, Miller, etc. all get fired, they are going to want to coach again. In doing so they are going to have to play the recruiting game again. One way to QUICKLY fall out of favor in the coaching fraternity is to rat out other coaches for the same things you are doing. It's why despite the fact we all know (well, except for one poster) there is rampant "cheating" you rarely hear of a coach rating out another school. That is the fastest way to derail your career.

Bruce Pearl is a good example. Throughout the 80's he was an assistant coach at power conf. schools (Stanford and Iowa). While at Iowa he was in a recruiting battle with Illinois for a player. The player committed to Illinois. Pearl then called the player and secretly recorded the conversation where he got the player to suggest he committed to Illinois because Illinois offered him benefits. Pearl the turned the tape over to the NCAA. Ultimately there was no evidence uncovered that Illinois did anything wrong in that instance, but further investigation (which started because of Pearl) found other stuff and Illinois received some pretty stiff sanctions. After that, Pearl was pretty much persona non grata in major college ball outside of Iowa. He eventually got a D-2 job where he did VERY well. That allowed him to eventually rise up the ranks to a major conf. school (Tenn.), but it took a decade to get there. You'll notice that when he got blasted at Tennessee for lying to the NCAA about infractions he didn't name names of coaches at other schools. That allowed him to get back into the SEC at Auburn soon after his show cause ended.

Lot of truth here,unfortunately. As much as Kentucky hates wade,I bet he’ll be one of their first calls if /when calipari retires.

I watched Bomani Jones yesterday touch on something we've all been saying. It's funny how the media frames these allegations once certain schools are involved. They call some people cheaters but if its a school like Duke then it's "Oh, thats just how it is now" and lets have philosophical discussions on paying players. Yep. Thats why last march was such frustrating bullshite. There were texts from Bill Self that were more damning than wade. Do I think we are 100% in line with NCAA regulations, no. Do I think we are doing anything outside of the norm in college basketball absolutely not and there was evidence to substantiate that. Yet somehow the media treated us differently and our administration went WAY beyond schools in the exact same situation which only furthered the problem.

When I attended LSU Dickie talked to Coach Brown weekly. He knew of a few skeletons in the closet back then, but didn’t act like a little bitch.

Anybody else just ready to get the investigation over with and move on with or w/out WW and any punishment. The fricking unknowns are the worst part.

I agree. vitale’s hatred for Will Wade is confusing. I don’t know if my childhood mentor, Mr. Dale Brown, has a bit in this obsession or not. I can almost say for certain something bad happened with DV and LSU administrators or past coaches. None of this anger makes sense. It really doesn’t. DV got his feelings hurt by someone at LSU or it’s boosters.
