Cannizzaro is worlds better than Cain at evaluating talent. He did a fantastic job here and laying the groundwork for the MSU team that just won the national championship
Nolan is a nice guy but look at our last few classes. So many misses.
Anyone can look at a Dylan Crews and know he can play. The separation occurs based on what programs do a good job of scouting the guys who aren’t obviously pro prospects or day 1 impact guys
This is an outstanding staff. You’ve got power recruiters who are also proven to be terrific eval and development guys. That’s where we’ve fallen short since Cannizzaro left.

I'm not sure Tulowitzki NEEDS money. Pay his relocation and reasonable housing allowance, throw him some camp money, let him endorse Hot Rod's Creole, and let's go get a natty.

quote:I should hope not considering they signed 9 months ago. My original comment was referring to the other 25 commitments in subsequent classes that haven’t signed yet.
And no one that even halfway follows give fitzy credit for guys like Pearson, Selvidge and Jensen.

Amazing the guys we can hire when we step outside the good ole baw network
None of these 3 guys were the #1 at their position as far as popular/public opinion. It feels like these are three guys that aren't from here that over achieve and will be proud as hell to be here. Almost like they lucked into the lottery. It will be interesting to see this team come together.

Cain not setting the world on fire and this:
Can both be true. Cain didn’t do anything to counteract the trajectory. I also don’t think it should’ve been his job to have to. I’ve already said Cain scares me in the hands of the enemy. I’m not sure what else you want.
I think Fitzgerald under the guidance of Johnson has more potential than Cain under the guidance of Mainieri.

If he gets paid he will. He’s not getting paid at Texas.
Theoretically we could entice him with more money on the camp front, but also provide other opportunities to make some money.
I wouldn’t look passed the fact that he has hundreds of millions from his playing days. Money wouldn’t play a factor imo for Tulo. In his last contract alone over his 13 year career he signed for half a million

I think I really like this. He's got a good eye for talent, IMO.

Tbh I think splitting hairs about the recruiting coordinator is missing the big picture here. It’s going to make a world of difference to have the HC hitting the pavement with some energy on the recruiting front.
Everything will fall on his shoulders. From the players to the coaching hires.

No doubt. His juco connections out west should be a key when we need to fill a hole in the roster and his reputation in the region has already paid off with a couple of top HS prospects.
I will be interested to see if he can still go get difference makers from cold weather areas. I think the best player we currently have committed in the next class, and maybe the best in years, is from Pennsylvania. Then again, maybe that won’t be necessary if he’s going to bring the top California kids into play for us more frequently.

I don't see how recruiting doesn't improve when Cain was basically the only one on the previous staff recruiting.
I think Johnson, Kelly, and obviously Fitzgerald will bring in more talent.
With some help on the mound LSU will be in Omaha next year IMO.

I think we see 1-2 pitching transfers fall into place by the middle of next week, at the latest.

Dunn was recruiting. I don’t know how well he was recruiting but he did go on the road.

Half the coaches at LSU refuse to go on his show
Well that’s not even remotely true considering in the past 2 months he’s had on Johnson (was first to have him outside of his intro press conference), Wade, Mulkey, Mainieri before he retired, Clark, and top administrators. The only coach that childishly refuses to go on is Orgeron.

Yeah I think there’s the big difference, now all 3 of our paid staffers will be actively recruiting instead of Cain doing the leg work with Paul and Dunn talking to them on visits
Is Kelly a better coach then Dunn? Idk but at least he’s going to have an active role in shopping for the groceries he’s cooking with….not a fat guy joke FWIW

Will be entertaining to see him attempt to spin his 0h-fers & explain how he didnt really out right whiff, people just misunderstood what he said & that he NEVER really said the shite that every1 heard him say during this process!

I don’t think he’s as hands on as what people are saying. He has a philosophy and wants it done a certain way but their players give Wanaka a lot of credit also.
Not sure why everyone skipped over your post; but outside of the stuff about Fitzgerald, yours was the most important one in the thread.
Wanaka is who is more than likely going to be the Volunteer coach here, which is what he was at AZ and Nevada under Johnson; so he has been with Johnson for a while now. Doubt that just stops.
Plus Wanaka’s role has been as an asst. hitting coach and also coaches infield.
I know everyone wants Tulo; but that’s probably not realistic considering he would be making a lateral move. He is volunteer coach at TX and that is the only coaching position Johnson now has available.

I totally agree Nap!!
I mean why should LSU Baseball FANS on a LSU msg board be positive & excited about a new, younger & way more energetic Coaching Staff?
