I don't think this will stick in the end.

College sports won’t be around much longer unless federal government steps in.. Usually nothing good ever comes from that either.
Are those players required to wear Purple and Gold, with LSU Logos?
Could they not wear a patch representing the company that pays the NIL?
How much would a good Lawyer or Bad Judge cost?

What is really concering is that now that these "Student" athletes have money, what is keeping them from betting and throwing games for more money?
I'm starting to hate this - what was his name Ed O'Bannan? The trash that started this and the NCAA for not seeing this would be a problem, not to mention these judges, who when they put on their black gown think they have more wisdom than God.
There was an inequity that the NCAA and schools happily let exist and grow for decades, without any consideration of the inevitable tipping point. Then the tipping point came at the exact same time the NCAA did, what so many other companies/people did - overreact to the "panicdemic".
50, 60, 70 years ago college sports were just a scholastic extracurricular for which a scholarship was an adequate exchange. But over the decades the "business" of college sports (mostly college football and basketball) grew, and grew, and grew. The TV contracts ventured into the millions, now billions. The schools continued to raise ticket prices to premiums. They built expensive luxury suites. They licensed their trademarks, essentially their "NIL" for fees to be put on everything from t-shirts to toothbrushes, to video games...ALL generating massive amounts of money for the conferences/schools...while the players, who like in every other sport are a BIG part of the equation, continued to simply get the same "compensation" they received 70 years ago.
The conferences, schools, coaches all operated the sports as a professional business...while telling the players there were just "amateurs". Be mad at O'Bannon all you want. But he just simply recognized the inequity. EA Sports was making millions selling a basketball video game. UCLA and the NCAA were paid a hefty sum by EA Sports to allow EA to use UCLA's and the NCAA's name, image, and likeness. The game featured an "unnamed" 6'8', bald, black, forward on the 1995 UCLA team wearing number #31...who looked coincidentally like O'Bannon. EA sports was making money. UCLA was making money. The NCAA was making money. So why shouldn't O'Bannon whose image and likeness were featured in the game? If you were featured in an advertising campaign for a company that generated millions in revenue for the company wouldn't it be fair that you received some compensation for your part considering YOU helped generate that revenue?
However, by not getting ahead of the inevitable, the NCAA allowed the title wave to hit with no guardrails, which it exacerbated by changing its transfer rules (essentially creating unfettered free agency) at the exact same time because "we were all in this together."

If we cannot come to some sort of governance, then we will have governance imposed on us by the politicians .

Judge Ken Curry ruled that Sorsby's attorneys demonstrated he will suffer a "probable, imminent and irreparable injury" if he's unable to play for the Red Raiders in 2026 and enjoined the NCAA from prohibiting Sorsby from practicing or playing this fall.
You mean consequences?
He is going to suffer consequences for his actions?
the exact same thing I am currently teaching my 5 year old.... ???
boo-fricking-hoo.
Actions have consequences. Your ability to throw a football should not prevent said consequences.

College sports is officially a dead
I hate to say it.... but this is pretty much accurate.
I did not like the portal and NIL (with no guard rails or regulation)... This is much worse.
and yes... GET OFF MY LAWN

It's time to cheat like never before. Nothing matters anymore in this NFL 2.0 watered down league.

I think the major conference will form an alliance and separate the sports programs from the university. They will form a semi-pro sports league. But, the disconnection from the school will allow them to treat them as paid employees and hard contracts.

time to send bounties to break his legs. Time to send a message to this corrupt sport.

Somebody dig up Pete Rose and Shoeless Joe and tell him they are going to be inducted into the HoF.

This ruling invalidates ANY authority the NCAA has. I said it in another thread, but like with everything, this will soon filter down to high school sports. GPA requirements, kids cut for not being good enough back on the team.
College sports officially died when the transfer portal and NIL took effect, fans thinking otherwise are just in denial. College sports are actually worse than pro sports now, No contracts, no salary cap, no consequences. Players moving from team to team with billionaires throwing unlimited money at them.

NCAA is going to fold. Posted this a few times on here over the past few years. The NCAA will not be the governing body of college sports by 2030.
Everyone hated the NCAA so much and now it’s going to have to be ran by Congress.. well played people

It really is comical.
“I hate the NCAA and its rules, frick those guys.”
Lawmakers and courts dismantle all authority the NCAA has to enforce its rules.
Mass chaos ensues.
“You know what, this sucks. We really need some rules in place to keep all of this bullshite from happening. NCAA do something!”

Agreed. It’s a dystopia. NCAA in its entirety should be dissolved and something else put in its place. a complete overhaul is necessary at minimum. Too many hands in the till.

He's suspended for the Adiline Christian and Oregon State games... it probably won't happen but I hope Tech gets rolled by one of them and loses every game in the Big 12.

I'm all for Name,Image, and likeness - IF it makes sense, like selling your jersey with your name and number on it.
But, you can't have boosters paying players a million dollars to say a couple of words on a commercial or sign a few things on a Saturday morning in the Summer time.
I remember a time as an LSU Graduate, I couldn't buy an LSU "recruit" a Dr. Pepper at McDonalds.
Why did the NCAA have so much power then, but absolutely NO power now. If they don't have any power what exactly are they needed for? To make brackets for end of season playoffs?
The Judicial system in this country is really getting out of hand. A lot of these judges are just political pawns and/or really incompetent.

Yeah that’s just messed up. No reason to give the NCAA any say at this point

Can a team file an injunction to get into the playoffs if the NCAA denies them entry into the playoffs?
Get a Baton Rouge judge to issue an injunction for LSU to play in the college world series with an all-star team of current and former players.
