I don’t disagree at all. Somebody/entity can sue a toaster. Doesn’t give it merit. There is no constitutional basis for “the right to transfer” but there is a constitutional basis for the right to be compensated. Huge difference.

The only thing keeping me watching college football is all the years growing up being such a fan I have a hard time letting go. I sure hate what the sport it has become in more ways than just this.

But, they are compensated with a free education, stipends, etc. As for the transfer rule, how can they force an athlete to stay at a school? I guess they can force them to sit out a year, but I'm not even sure of that. Any local judge will immediately make that athlete eligible .

Good move. The bets were nothing but $10/$20 bets. As long as he wasn’t fixing games let him play.

Unless serious regulations are in place, no governing body will succeed as the head of college sports.

The NCAA will not be the governing body of college sports by 2030.

If we are being real, they aren’t the governing body now.

I’d bet 90% of the posters in here claiming Sorsby shouldn’t play also think Pete Rose should be in the Hall of Fame

yep, strange crowd on this board, they should keep Rose out because is undeniably the biggest a-hole to ever play the game, and just as big of an a-hole away from it

Can a team file an injunction to get into the playoffs if the NCAA denies them entry into the playoffs?

Not against the NCAA. The CFP controls the playoffs in FBS college. They provide the funding, format, and choose teams. The NCAA has virtually zero influence on the CFP outside of eligibility for targeting and such. The CFP can just refuse to rank tech in the top 12 all year.

So kids can now gamble on their own teams. Great. So stupid to allow local judges to just allow this. What a joke.
No Doubt, this JUDGE got the same BIG TEXAS TECH $$$$ that the Softball player got.

He's now got new cars, TT season tickets and a suite, plus free education for his kids or other relatives and $$$$.

What about the TT football players?

I don't think they would want a guy that bet on his own team as their starting QB.

the worst part is that the type of injunction that was granted is only granted if the court [judge] feels that the plaintiff has a very high chance of the ruling going in his or her favor at the next level .

so the judge thinks that this will hold up at the next level

it wasn't a lubbock judge ..the lubbock judge removed himself and a judge from Dallas came in

Well wupty do. Where do most of the ones that make it out of Lubbock go? Dallas/Ft. Worth. The only ones that are supporting this would be some, but not all from Texas Tech, and the guys that have gambled in the past who haven’t got caught yet.
This is like saying, if I committed a crime that was punishable by jail, but I pleaded with the judge that I couldn’t go to jail because I couldn’t keep my job and support my family. But I still committed a crime so I have to suffer the consequences for my actions. And so should he

I’m disappointed that any coach, AD, school president would actually fight to get him in the locker room. What an abomination to sports integrity.

Fair point, and not saying that couldn't happen. All i'm saying is that there is more of a legal basis to enforce NIL than there is to challenge the old rule of sitting out a year after transferring.

I'm in the same boat. I don't think i'll ever stop watching but it's lost some of it's luster for sure.
