Clemson: are they going to be better than last year? It’s hard to get a read on them.

They made a lot of personnel and staff changes, and Dabo has to be pulling out all the stops this year in order to reverse the trend of a team in decline. What’s your view of them this year compared to last year? I can’t help but think they’ll be better. I also believe LSU will significantly improve.

We should win walking away. However, I expect the first game of the season to be tougher than it may look on paper. All advantages point to the Tigers at this point.
ETA: I can't see the improvement from last year's team, save for a few players but not enough to fill the holes entirely

Clemson is definitely trending downward. Dabo won’t last much longer.
The only way we don’t win this game easily if we somehow don’t show up in the first game of the Lane Kiffin era, which I find highly unlikely.

They had a down year last year.
Most of the pre season reports I have read predict that they will be improved from last year but only enough to get to about the bottom of the top 20.

That is sort of subjective...what is better than last year? They could be better than last year and still have more losses. They have more unknowns than they did last year but they didn't perform well last year even with positions they were supposed to be good at. So the measuring stick isn't going to be accurate.
Their offensive skilled positions are objectively good. Especially WR. Their QB is a bit of a mix bag. He performed really well last year against SMU but then didn't see playing time the rest of the season even with Klubnick hurt so that could be just trying to give Klubnick a last hurrah or because they didn't trust in Vizzina's development.
Offensive line is a big question mark but again they didn't perform well last year with returning starters to could be addition by subtraction but too early to know.
Interior defensive line they underperformed last year but their best players are gone (Green is on our roster).
Linebacker they should be objectively good in run defense but struggle in pass defense.
DBs too many unknowns.
Running back same thing but they are all excited about their Running backs.
I think the biggest key is what is going to happen with the offensive play calling and the LOS on both sides of the ball. Because if those 3 things don't change then they won't win many games and Dabo might be out at Clemson at the end of the year.

Why is LSU playing these guys instead of a school like Rice?

A lot of Clemson fans seem pretty pessimistic about their team's chances in this game, as well as Dabo's chances of keeping his job this year. They lost a ton from last year's team and Dabo didnt do a great job replacing what left; on top of not addressing their OL issues and lack of run game that plagued them all last season.

I dont think they are better, but with we would schedule games week zero when playing a good team

No, will be same or worse. Kiffin and our Sweet Boys will hang a 50 burger on them. Dabo may retire in the post game
presser.
presser.

Their qb Vizinna is a 3rd year guy that was supposed to be the clear cut starter this year but Dabo didn’t sound super confident in him in his summer presser and made it sound like he’ll be in competition with a true freshman. If he’s not that guy I have a hard time believing theyre going to come into Death Valley, opening weekend, on the first Saturday night in the Kiffin era and be able to put up many points

Likely not. They got worse at QB, RB, (OL is hard to tell because they lose a lot but all of them were bad) DL, and safety. Also a fossil of an OC

Next year we play north western state for game one. Didn't see what the first game is in 2028. The sec is strong enough as it is. We don't need to play a power four team for the first game.

I have no idea what their team looks like this year but Dabo has not done well in the portal and NIL era at all.

They were perceived as world beaters last year especially in the trenches. When we won that game there was talk all over the place about us finally putting all the pieces together. Turns out Clemson sucked arse and we weren’t much better. They will be talked about and praised until they take the field and piss down their leg. I’m expecting us to be markedly improved.

Can they really be worse? They kinda have to be better with any type of improvement

I like LSU this year, but Clemson + the points is easy money

They hired Chad Morris as their OC. His last time calling an offense was 2020 at Auburn.

Dabo actually called it last year. Didn’t he say he gave his team an F and us a D+ after the game? And everyone here was pissed about it. But he was right

The one thing that could be concerning for LSU is Clemson having experience at the skilled positions within their system. Minus the experience, LSU should match up really well regarding talent.
If LSU gels as a team in fall practice, we should win handily. It's hard to say if that will happen. First games can be ragged.
