We get a base hit to center and he doesn’t let the listener know until the pitcher has the ball about to step back on the mound. South Carolina bunts and he doesn’t let you know the runner is safe for a solid 10 seconds after you hear the crowd cheering.

Yes I quit listening to his broadcasts. Can’t do it.

The Jones grand slam was the worst call I ever heard.

Yes. He doesn’t keep up with the action. It’s odd. It’s his worst sport.

And he sounds like a robot calling a game. No enthusiasm whatsoever towards LSU. I wasn’t crazy about Hawthorne, but at least he was passionate about LSU.

I miss Jim Hawthorne - mistakes and all. I gave Blair a try but I never listen to any of his LSU broadcasts in any sport.

I remember Hawthorne complaints. Way back there way back there. Caught by the shortstop.

Yeah I caught some of it driving to lunch yesterday. He talked about a bloop fly ball and didn’t say whether or not it was caught for an out for about 30 seconds. I found myself yelling “well was it a fricking hit or not?!”

It was a single.

I wish he would just move on. Doesn't have an ounce of "Tigah" in him.

At least you knew that the ball was hit.

Look I’m all about crapping on the announcer but he described that play just fine.

Bunt down the line, jones charged to field it and threw to Milam who had to cover but the runner beat the throw.

It’s not like it was silent and you just had to guess. If you are going to complain at least be honest about it.

Or he would argue with hanny. Hanny would slowly explain the call by rule and Jim still would say that’s not right.

Been having to listen on the beach.... it's awful.... as a radio guy you should be alerting the lister to the score, count and action often.... I would go do something w my kid and after 5 minutes give up and check the score on TD

Hawthorne's problem was calling the game exactly as it happened. It led to mistakes for sure "caught! No he dropped it." But it also created some truly authentic reactions and excitement.
