Kelly wasn’t right for anyone at that point. He was 60 years old. There are very few 60 year olds who have the energy they had at 40. It’s a bad idea to hire 60 year olds. Most people know this. In fact, it’s so well known, and so often animates our actions, that the federal government had to make a law to get people to hire and retain them.
I’m the same age as Kelly. I had done some good things in business before i was 60, and the way things were going an observer would say I still had it. But I knew the truth, which was that momentum was keeping things going. I still had the knowledge, but I was lacking the “want-to”.
When they hired Kelly I called it a mistake. And I think Kelly was a very good coach earlier in his career.

We really need to stop discussing Brian Kelly. He failed and we moved on. Now, I like all the pundits picking Ole Miss to win the game.

I disliked the hire a lot, BK never got over the hump with ND and he killed a kid. He always just seemed like a high floor low ceiling guy. I did think he might be able to use our talent to get over the hump but I thought that was a slim chance. Instead we got a guy that didn’t buy in, didn’t commit to the program and winning, delegated far too many things and was just enjoying his money. Once he started making hires it was all down hill.

A lot in the media said that it wasn't a fit when they hired him. His intro at the Basketball Game set my spidey senses off with him acting like a democrat in southern church with his fake accent. It was worse act than Hillary in a black church.
But I actually did thing he just needed players to be successful, and had he been effective at selecting a quality and proven DC, he likely would've won a title during JD5's Heisman year. Had we had a mid pack defense, I think a title could've been won.
BK's teams were not disciplined and were soft thanks to his style and practices.

Horrific fit. Pompous as they come.
The coach’s show at TJ Rib’s was always laid back and fun and both Les and O would sign autographs, take pics with babies, and chat with fans.
Kelly walked in late. Only spoke during the show. He even ignored Blair during radio timeouts. He was not to be bothered. I get it…just win and all this doesn’t matter. But, take away the Bama win. What did he accomplish that we haven’t seen other coaches reel in?
The horrific drunken speech at the PMAC should have been the sign. He assumed we were an ignorant base and should automatically adopt the mentality that Julius Caesar was among us rubes. His pseudo southern accent was an absolutely terrifying display of stupidity.
He was as bad a fit as Arnsparger. Bill won an SEC title, but both coaches displayed a dry and cold demeanor. Both coaches made decisions about the program that none of their contemporaries would have dreamed of. Kelly was much worse than Bill. Hallman and DiNardo may have also been bad fits but they were relatively personal and warm. They just didn’t win. They were also basement bargain hires while Kelly was the biggest since Saban.
LSU is what it is. It’s always been a family-like atmosphere created only by its own. Kelly was as far from that as anyone. He was hardly bigger than LSU.

If he wanted to coach, he'd be coaching right now instead of on T.V.,
He retired the second he got off the plane in BR.
Can't really blame him. Contracts should be performance based for what you will do, now what you did.

An SEC team getting 10 wins a year and a Notre Dame cupcake school getting 10 wins a year is a HUGE difference. Notre Dame only plays 1-2 good teams a year. You're saying you thought someone that loses any game that means anything should translate well here lol

He quit after that first season. I think he figured he had a job until death because of that huge buyout and just stopped trying.
I think he could of gotten at least one title or a few playoff births if he coached like he did that first season.

I was a big Kelly supporter when he was hired especially after 2022 when he beat Bama. Never understood how he could just stop working hard to build a championship program and finish his legacy. Had I been aware of what he was actually doing those last 3 years I would have booted him just like they did O for f**king off after the 2019 Natty. Both coaches threw away that opportunity for the same reason. Complacency and arrogance although O got the Natty so his complacency might be more understandable.Neither were like Saban who would go to work the day after winning a Natty. I think Kiffen is that type of guy

hiring the baseball and women's basketball coach does not give the dude a pass for nearly detsroying your 2 biggest money making programs in football and men's basketball. He will always be viewed as a failure as AD for that and there's nothing that can really be done to change that.

Brian Kelly was out for himself and he could give zero fricks about LSU. He snaked his way into the program.
