Brian Kelly was never right for LSU

3:45 mark. He says "why all the emotions for a game that's played for a flower?"
That's a symbol of the state of Louisiana, you fricking yankee.
I grew up in a town so poor, our school didn't have much equipment for students to use. K-12 in one building. When we'd get the recess bell, we'd go out in the yard and play football with a magnolia bulb that hadn't blossomed yet.
When I moved to Texas seventeen years ago, I chose a property because it was the only one with a magnolia tree in the back yard.
In this particular video, he doesn't mention how his own team struggled against the very same La Tech last year. He just says "oh it's hard to win on the road in the SEC," as he picks Ole Miss.
No, BK, it was hard for YOU to win on the road in the SEC.
frick Brian Kelly. And frick Ole Miss.

I personally thought that it would work out with Kelly
You take a coach who wins 10 games every year with three and four star recruits, put him in Baton Rouge, and I thought that it was a match made in heaven.
Little did we know that once Kelly stepped on Campos, he would basically retire from football and become an avid golfer at the local country clubs.
Kelly is a douche, but without him there is no Kiffin…

[hot take] He also stabilized the program following two miserable seasons in 2020–21. He had a championship window in 2023 that we know he obviously missed because of a weak portal class and his defensive coaches. The Kelly era was not nearly as bad as some remember, and it put us in a position to hire Kiffin

Not to take up for him, but it just seemed like a somewhat bad attempt at humor. Which is par for the course for BK (rimshot).
And the “hard to win on the road in the SEC” and rivalry game stuff is pretty standard stuff too. I just heard an Atlanta sports talk show say UGA was too big of a favorite at Arky this weekend because it’s “still an SEC road game”.

He was trying to be funny, but just like the fake accent, he failed miserably.
BK is living in your head.
There should be no more posts about BK on this board
He is gone.
It's game week.
LFG!

Woodward wasn't right for LSU either

Jesus dude calm down….
Kelly was making a joke because he’s working on his image for the next hiring cycle and wants to appear likable. It didn’t land because he’s an awkward weirdo but he wasn’t trying to shite on the flower you clearly hold near and dear

That’s a neat story and all, but it doesn’t mean people who are not familiar with the tie magnolias have to LA/MS will have the same respect and admiration for them.
For people outside of the Gulf Coast, it’s just another tree/flower.

Also, to be fair, I don’t think Kelly or anyone else realized how much NIL and the portal was about to change CFB.
He came in and turned an abysmal situation around very quickly, identifying and bringing in JD. Getting that first win over Saban at home since 2010 was an all time TS moment imo, and brought another Heisman to BR.
But by the end of 2023 it was clear that old dog was not up to learn the new system of perpetual free agency, and honestly who can blame him, dude became a HC in the 90s and is as old school as it gets. Had he been hired in 2016 or some other point he probably joins the LSU NC coaching tree.
Saban and Dabo had no interest in fighting this new battle and Kelly didn’t either. It is a young man’s game and I’m just glad the timing worked out to get the absolute alpha designed to wreck shite in this era.
The guys constantly shitting on him as some colossal failure are as bad as the soft arse Ole Miss fans that want to rewrite history to hate on Lane. It’s weird and embarrassing.

You are right. He sucked in a lot of ways and deserved to get canned, but it wasn’t all bad. He did get the program out of the ditch O drove it into after the natti.
