I have lived in Athens for over 10 years. Here are some suggestions. I tried to include a little something for everyone. Have fun and Geaux Tigers!

Bars/food: Trappeze, The Globe, Copper Creek, Capitol Room, Pauley's (lots of beers, food just ok)

Just Bars (depending on age): Magnolias, Allgood, Walkers, The Pub at Gameday, Cutters, 80s bar, 90s bar, Max/Engine Room, Georgia Bar, Little Kings

Food: East West Bistro, 5 Star Day Cafe, Last Resort, Branded Butcher, Farm 255, The National, Taco Stand, Depalmas, Skokitini

Food (outside of downtown): Big City Bread, 5 & 10, Royal Peasant
Late night food: Little Italy, The Grill

Check out flagpole.com for more food/bar info

What do you mean "in actual Athens"? Isn't downtown Athens just a mile or 2 away from the campus?

Downtown Athens is adjacent to campus

I have a group going from RI. We are staying in Atlanta. Last year we went to Gainesville and rented a house on www.vrbo.com . It was a great deal and location. Before I booked Atlanta hotel I noticed a bunch of condo rentals in Athens. It might be worth a look.

Downtown Athens sits side-by-side with the north end of the campus.

Athens sucks besides the night life. Not much to see. Tgey gave 90+ bars downtown, just bar hop until you find LSU fans. Never stayed in a hotel, akways with friends. But i know they have ur basic hotels like howard johnson.

We're planning to make it down as well. I hear it's the best college town in the entire country to spend a football weekend. I'm sold

Looks like a 3:30ET CBS game, right?

Idk ab that. I grew up in ATl so maybe im biased. My first trip to br when i was looking at schools blew me away. Nothing compares to night games at LSU. Nothing.
