I have faith in JJ that he will make the right moves for next season.unfortunatly it’s not going to be this season.Only Schmit seems to be alittle consistent.JJ has a lot of work to do in the future,Idont see things getting better this season.

Every post from June to Feb said we were awesome this year. It’s an annual tradition to celebrate the pitching staff based on nothing.

If I'm Jay, I'm probably find 2 starters in the portal that are pretty dang good, flat out.
I don't know that the market is going to be that great this offseason.
Just glancing at the national stats, there aren't a ton of underclassmen in weekend rotations. And some of the better performers are already at places like Auburn and North Carolina, who aren't likely to lose them to the portal.
There are a few interesting names. There is a guy from Cal Baptist with 70+ strike outs in 45 innings. He would have been recruited there by former LSU Ops director Tyler Nordgren, before he left for UCSD. So there is a little bit of a connection. And then there is Brody Trosclair from Northwestern State (FR LHP from Thibodaux) and Camden Sunstrom at Southern Miss (SO RHP from UHigh). Grayden Harris is another LHP at Southern Miss that's pretty much their ace. He's from Central. I don't see those guys leaving USM, but you never know.

That's the problem with relying too much on the portal is you have no idea the quality of players in it from year to year. And if there are only a few high quality starting pitchers, their price will obviously escalate.

The good (or bad) news is that falling short of a regional will give JJ time to gobble up the best prospects out of the portal.

Curiel needs to start living in the weight room.

I still havent been very convinced that Evans is anything better than a Sunday type starter in the SEC to this point
He definitely has the stuff to be a top of the conference SEC Fri night guy.

I see this every year. yes, on paper they should be. we'll have to wait and see though.
I don't think Milam or Brown is coming back. Curiel very small chance since he can still use leverage if he comes back next year. Highly unlikely though. This team is going to need to hit a homerun in the portal. Only way Milam comes back is if he just loves the college game and gets a nice paycheck. All his leverage is gone but I also don't see him being highly projectable in MLB due to his size and bat.
Moore's injury is killing this team right now. People say Jay didn't have enough time in the portal this past season and that might be somewhat true but what is also true is this portal was kinda weak compared to previous years.

we need to land Quinton coats from Cincinnati

Evans/schmidt/paz is a pretty damn solid core to start with. Cant think of anyone who will return more potential from a starting staff. Prob should add one potential competitor from the portal.

His stuff seemed better to me out the pen then as a starter. Feels like he hits this 94-95 wall a lot as a starter and was flame throwing 98 last year and was more pin point it seemed. Fastball just seems way more hittable this year than last.
With all the poor starts to his starts he's had in SEC play it just makes you wonder if starting is the demeanor of him after what we saw last season. Dude is fking pumped up coming out of the pen and just seemed to dominate guys. Dont see him dominating guys this year nearly as much. The OU start is the big encouraging thing there at least.
I'm not super down on him at all, just saying to this point and we are halfway through SEC play now, he just hasnt produced ace stuff on the weekends and seems more like an end of weekend starter if he cant get it more figured out or maybe if we get enough weekend arms he could go back to the pen throw 3-4-5 innings as needed out of there and totally dominate again. We'll see what he can do back half of the conference season, I certainly hope he produces more OU game gems.

I know people are being negative about this year, but I see anger and determination in Jay's expressions. He isn't ok with losing or mediocrity. I think he'll hit the portal, probably send some packing and turn this thing around.

But it's not a pipe dream to get Milam back or Jake Brown back. I

Isn't Moore also eligible next season?

Better draft eligible soph prospects have returned to school at lsu in the past. I wouldn’t write it off

I feel like people forget which players were transfers over the years. This is just a wild thing to say. The portal has been the catalyst for two championships lol.

Would the potential for an MLB lockout have any impact on guys deciding to stay another year? If so when would that be likely?
ETA: I have no clue how a lockout would impact minor leagues if at all.

Evans, Schmidt, Paz could be very good. Add Williams, possibly Rizy, Zion and Ricken. Guidry, Noot and Garcia could return for senior year. Plog is a sophomore and Sheerin is a redshirt sophomore who could be offered a chance at the rotation. Now add true freshmen and portal and I believe it will be very good. Position players will more than likely be a complete rebuild.
Posted on 4/15/26 at 12:45 pm to N2daWild
I think Sheerin is going to be offered enough money that he will go pro.
