Participation Trophy generation in full swing.

The kids dad was the coach of the team and he came up 4 points short of the record. So technically, the dad could have fed him the ball every time in the last game till the records was broken, but instead, he should be mad at the CBI director?

quote:Correct, and would be totally valid if the CBI Director said this was the sole reason they didn't get an invite. But he didn't. He admitted part of the reason was so this dude wouldn't break that record. Point still stands, that would enrage any of you if that happened to someone close to you.
The only reason Detroit Mercy would have gotten any tournament consideration is for the publicity of him breaking the record. It wouldn’t have been on their own merits.

Not really. Team didn’t belong to be in the tournament and he had more than enough opportunities to break the record. You’re instigating shite where there isn’t anything.

I don’t want to get banned but that fricking POS can eat shite and die. He will never be Pete Maravich. Dude played five years and complained cause he doesn’t have the record. frick you Antoine !!

Actually it does. You said if this were your kid, you’d be mad. But if you were your kids coach and he/she came up 4 points short, why would you take out your anger on a tournament, when it was within your control to make sure your kid broke the record?

Not a good look for the kid

But the Director of the CBI literally admitted that part of the reason his team didn't get an invite was so he wouldn't break that record. If that were your kid, every last one of you would be losing your shite if the CBI Director said what he said.
Here's what the CBI director said:
“We did receive unsolicited emails and voicemails about Detroit Mercy and some said we don’t ever want Pete Maravich’s record broken,” said Rick Giles, president of the Gazelle Group that runs the CBI. “The decision we made wasn’t based purely on whether we wanted him to break the record or not.”

You can read that quote as saying they considered inviting Detroit Mercy because of the scoring record, but the team wasn't good enough. But if you want to claim victim status, then, sure, you could see it differently and get mad. It wouldn't happen if it was my kid though.
Davis played for a 14-19 team that did not deserve to play in a postseaston tournament, not even the CBI. If he had played for a better team, there probably would have been a postseason tournament but, with better teammates, he probably would have had to share the ball more and scored less.
This year's CBI invited 16 teams -- 15 with winning records and another that was .500. In no universe is Detroit Mercy deserving to be included in that group simply because Davis could break the scoring record, and any parent would recognize that. No one deserves to have a record like that just handed to them.

I'm not looking it up, but I wonder how many free throws he missed in his college career?
shite, I’m a dumbass and quotes the wrong stats. He actually was a very good FT shooter at 89.2%. 638 made out of 715 attempts.
I’ll just take Davis’ approach and blame the site for not having an iPhone friendly website and making me scroll side to side

The free-throw thing is exact thing I keep thinking about. He misses one less free-throw per year, and he beats the record by two.
He’s a fricking fraud and a whiner. Glad history is done with him.

The CBI’s stated criteria in this year’s press release was that teams must have a .500 record against Division I opposition. Detroit Mercy did not meet the criteria. End of story.

Many parents would have understood that their kid's team didn't belong in the game. Dang this fallout from the stupid participation trophies. It was us boomers who started these stupid participation trophies. What a joke.

Had to be because he black and the people calling to make sure an actual prestigious record doesn’t go down by a clown on a sun 500. team in a rent a tourney.
What’s worse than coming in second?
Someone who comes in second that complains about coming in second and didn’t deserve to be first it in the first place.

There needs to be some kind of asterisk or a new scoring requirement made. Since Pete was only allowed to play 3 years, being freshmen weren’t allowed to play, and no 3 point line, the requirement should be to surpass the Pistol you must be extraordinarily above. But it must be in 3 years. We’re even going to give you the 3. Do it in 3 years
