Pistol did it in how many games without the 3-point line, and Davis took how many games to even get close?

that’s really petty of him to say

guess the claim that he didn’t break the record out of respect to the Pete is be laid to bed

feels even better now that he didn’t break it

Trust me he was hinting it and thinking it,he danced around it without saying it directly but pretty obvious in a few sentences what he was eluding to.

“People were trying to paint a picture of us that wasn't true,” Mike Davis said. "The picture painted was that we were tyring to buy a record. The CBI was never going to let us in because of the backlash. The PS8 had teams pulling out, saying they wouldn't play if we were going to be in the tournament.

Interesting that other teams felt the need to ensure the record was intact and not bought. Respect to whomever made some noise.

I do not believe any teams did anything. I don’t know if any ADs that would call about that.

With respect to the record, all LSU had to do was make the point that there were no such tournaments to “pay to play” when Pete was around. A TON of fans of other teams would pack the arena just to see him play. It was the opposite. Additionally, I would add up his “no doubt” 3’s and make an asterisk in the record books. I would also show is points per minute as a comparison…. That should do it.

frick him. Who could really be proud of doing something in 5 years that it took someone else only 3. Really?

What a dumb bitch. You got two more years than Pete, but you were cheated? Cry me a fricking river. He played on a shitty team in a shitty conference and had 61 more games to break the record, how much more does he fricking want?

Everybody has to be a dumb bitch victim these days.

he did take less shots in 5 seasons than Pete took in 3. The difference is there was no shot clock and teams would kill the clock on LSU. Also, he had a 3 point line that added to his points as has been well documented. He also never had games where 2-3 people were trying to stop you. It isn’t really comparable. .

That’s because he wasn’t good enough to get more. You have to be a great player to shoot as often as Pete would especially with all of his opponents keying on him.

Box and one, Diamond and two. You name it Pete faced it.

I remember when Rupp put the great Dan Issel on him. What a war! Pete still couldn’t be stopped.

And LSU lost. Rupp played Pete straight up and held everyone else to nothing.

Look, I’m the biggest Pete fan and defender of him on this site and just look at it this way, Pete could do whatever he wanted and Press let him.

He was the greatest ball handler and pure scorer I’ve ever seen and that includes everyone that has played since him.

He will never be duplicated, only imitated.

Kentucky was the conference champion. We came in second Pete’s senior season. Kentucky lost in the semis to Jacksonville State and Artis Gilmore, and didn’t make the final four but they were ranked first in the AP polls at one time or another. Jacksonville eventually list to a great John Wooden and UCLA.

Losing to Ky was no shame.
Scored @ Ky ... Ky 109-96 Pete scored 55
in BR... Ky 125 LSU 105 Pete scored 64, btw Issel had 51

I wasn't one of the folks reaching for the Vagisil about the possibility of the kid breaking the career record (a career record is a career record - deal with it), BUT after seeing this, frick the kid right in his ear.

Had benefit that Maravich didn’t have; 3 point shots. If Maravich had 3 point shots Davis would be nowhere near his record and they wouldn’t even be talking about this.
