Yeah. The problem may not be Alleva but our shitty basketball program in its current state.

I would wager this is the closest thing to truth spoken in this thread.

chicken/egg deal. no coach wants to come into a situation that is basically "this can be a great program, but it's all on you. if you perform some quick miracles the fans will show up".

The program is probably 2-4 years from being competitive

Dixon may not be a guy we hire, but assuming Jones is the guy based on this info is a mistake IMO. I agree with Tool on this one. I also think Alleva was just giving his friend, Ammaker, a mention out of courtesy. Why would Alleva honestly say Ammaker turned us down if we really wanted him? That wouldn't make sense to me.

If we get Jones, I have a feeling he'll have a Gene Chizik type welcome to BR...

No way to gauge this before our signing class is done. With a great coach, and possibly a surprise recruit or 2, along with our returning players, we can still be good next year.

The comments about Jones sounded like they were meant to pacify certain people and prove Jones was given a fair shot.

I sure hope not. I would never hire him, but if he gets the job, we should at least give him the benefit of the doubt. At the very least he'll recruit better than Johnson.

Throwing rotten fruit at Alleva would obviously still be justified.

I wouldn't say "no coach" wants to come into this kind of situation. While it might be difficult for someone like a Jamie Dixon to leave an established power conf program to come to a program like LSU, I certianly could see a very good mid-major coach being more than willing to take the job.

No way. It's maybe two good recruiting classes away. If you watched the team this year for more than one game (unlike many of the "basketball experts" on here who are talking about hoops for the first time all year) you can see guys with talent. JOB could be a ligitimate All-SEC player. Hickey had a very good freshman year. Stringer and Turner are good shooters when put in good positions to shoot. TJ's offense never had much flow or structure, which lead to far too many forced and contested shots. IMO, this program is not that far away from being competitive in the SEC.

this is probably his toughest challenge, because a quick turnaround is going to be real tough. The program needs to be built, not quick-fixed. The ignorant LSU fans will start judging him day one, much like they do baseball during the first 2-3 games every year. A sexy name will get everyone excited from the start, but the new will quickly wear off.

Have you heard anything about LSU reaching out to Buzz Williams or Kermit?

Who really knows. Aleva seems to be a guy who is gonna do it his way no matter what. I also have gained a little respect for the man. He has not buckled to the old LSU way. I have spoken to a some these LSU guys who in the past have been very involved with these type of situations and they are pretty humbled by Aleva. He has definitely shown we are gonna do it his way. I truly thought Johnny was gonna be in place by now, according to those guys. At this point I think the only one who really knows is Aleva. I just hope who ever it is they are smart enough to hire Randy Livingston cause he wants to be here bad. One thing I do know is thank god trent johnson has moved on, now we have a chance to build a program with some first tier talent.

Again, I say.....Tony Mitchell would not have returned to UNT if he knew he was losing his coach.

Actually very well. A large percentage of major college coaches came from mid-majors. It's rare to jump from major to major.

Agree, too much is being made of jones for it to be him, we are practically putting his name up in neon lights all throughout the media.

Jones would not be a popular hire...Why on earth would Alleva hire someone who a majority of the fans don't want, especially after all the sleepy Trent years.. That just doesn't make sense.

And why the hell hasn't my RHS alum mate and former LSU assistant coach Gary Duhe been given an interview? lol
