Yeah, same with Coach K, Rick Petino, and Bill Self. These are more likely candidates now because he never said he didn't meet them

One thing about Alleva. He went to Atlanta today to meet with someone. So if we land Jones, it's not necessarily because he didn't try to land other guys. Just other guys told us no.

Damn is Jones basically the only guy we've gone after?
If he wasn't Dale's BBQ buddy we wouldn't even think twice about him. There's no reason to settle for Johnny Jones.
Well, by all accounts, he seems to be the only one seriously interested.

Yeah. The problem may not be Alleva but our shitty basketball program in its current state.

I'm sure Alleva is handling this better than any one of us perceive but this can't get no worse. Your public short list is probably the worst I could imagine.
Let's just hire Theus and see if Mo Isom can shoot a free throw. Probably make him feel right at home.

I just can't wrap my head around paying Jones the type of increase he would get for basically doing nothing but having got us the virtual death penalty 15 years ago (valid or not).

How can someone interview Alleva tonight, ask him if he met with Dixon, and when he denies, not ask him who it was
Posted on 4/12/12 at 12:25 am to Tiger Authority
That's what I just can't get through my head either. Surely there's something working out that we aren't seeing

If nobody else wants it...give him 550K and make him walk for it. Backload it with incentives and be done with it.

None of it makes sense. Either Alleva is a mad genius, or the LSU job is in such a state that 2 million per year can't even get you out of.

Alleva needs to make Dixon an offer he can't refuse. Go over the 2 million mark and get a top notch coach to BR.
Sure, it's more complicated than that but for 2 million a damn good coach should be found. I'm going to be very disappointed if Jones is the guy.

I agree. But you know they aren't going to allow a profit making sport in men's basketball have a coach make 400k less than a profit losing women's sport where the coach makes 9.

Logic bomb. Who talked to Alleva? Does the Alleva interview come from Kleinpeter?

Just hoping for pure genius. Bracing for another 3-7 years of mediocrity

I think/hope that Alleva is using all of his current "candidates" as a smoke screen. Do you guys really think that Alleva would tell everyone ALL of his candidates right now? He did for a fact go to Atlanta today to meet with somebody. Is it Dixon? Doubtful. But I'm feeling that Alleva met someone who isn't talked about as much of a candidate, or somebody less than Jones, Dixon, Theus... He did pull Trent from outer-space which was looked at as a home run hire back in 08. It's going to get interesting these next couple of days.

If they put together a winner they'd easily realize their investment even with out small arena. I mean, the PMAC been operating at what...40% with 50% tickets sold?
Hell, they tried selling tickets to the faculty against Georgia for $1 a piece as many as you wanted.

Does anyone know if Joe is using a search firm for this hire?
Posted on 4/12/12 at 12:35 am to FamousAmos
I believe his doing all of the searching through his own basketball contacts. No word of a Aeschylus committee that I've heard, but I could be completely wrong
Posted on 4/12/12 at 12:40 am to FamousAmos
Per the advocate, Alleva's search firm is the experienced trio of Eddie Nunez (construction), Verge Ausberry (football scheduling) and Bo Bahnsen (compliance).
