yes...and the point is if you pay 5 million this year what will it be the next year or in 5 years. when season ticket holders see a 18yr old on the bench is making more than they are they will begin rethinking putting out 5-10k a year for season tickets.

Why are you can’t like season tickets are a donation.

“why am I spending all this money if that kid gets paid”

ostensibly because you like going to games.

$1M a year for a top QB recruit with a good attitude seems par the course now.

Teams pay $10 or 20 million for their current coach and 1 or 2 previous coaches they fired, and that's sustainable and thriving.

You're saying a lot of things with no actual reasoning to back it up other than you don't like it for... Reasons.

CFB has been a billion dollar printing press for years, but now paying the players over the table is going to break it all.

We need to go back to the bag man days to quell the masses. Apparently ignorance was bliss.

Kind of like the market decided it doesn’t give a shite about 18-22 year olds playing sports if they’re not part of the NCAA or primary pro sports leagues, but then that hurt everyone’s feelings?

For the most important position on the field with the quality equivalent of what baseball calls a "5-tool player", it makes sense should the market sustain it.

I would hope there are performance incentives after the initial bonus at the time of their arrival at the University. Hell, give him $3 million per Heisman in addition to other items like SEC Championship, National Championship, SEC best rated QB, etc. If we can win two or three national championships with this lad, it's worth it.

No, more like the market not giving a shite about P4 teams that don't have any talent.

LSU fans “We shouldn’t be paying players all that money!”

Also LSU fans: “We should be competing for the Natty every year! Fire Kelly!”

Huh? You think he's getting a $5 million dollar bag when he hits campus?

I don’t watch the nfl. I care…I don’t think the players are worth it and I won’t participate in it…I wonder how many more people see things just like me?

Well considering that the NFL is making billions of dollars and Mahomes signed a contract to pay him nearly a half billion dollars, I don't think the NFL cares how many more people see things just like you. I know I don't.

Joe Burrow signed a contract worth $275,000,000. He doesn't give a rat's arse what you think.

Are donors and businesses going to continue fork over millions every year to build a roster? And that’s not to even mention baseball and basketball. There’s no way this is feasible for college athletics in the long term

to the 20+ downvoters, do you understand basic economics? Especially when your return on investment keeps falling below the mark?

Meh.. do you know how many millions a QB led NC run brings in to the university, city and state?

Did you notice groceries, rent, or electricity decrease after we won a Natty?
Was money spent on building new roads or easier access to the stadium on game day?
If not, your argument is worthless.

Every sport but the NFL gives out way more than $5 million dollar contracts to kids who have never played above a high school level. MLB and NHL teams give 17-18 year olds $20 million dollars without ever playing above high school competition. NBA used to do it all the time, and even now the G- League and Overtime Elite are paying high school players multi millions to play for a year.

Major soccer clubs sign 16-17 year old academy players to multi million dollar contracts all the time.

I don’t love the direction cfb is going either, but unfortunately we’ve been spoiled for a long time. Every other sport it’s the norm for elite talent to be identified and paid accordingly starting around 17-18.
