I’m so tired of this question as if it’s relevant. The money that donors have affects the team, if they’re pressured to pay this much every season they will stop eventually. No one wants to pay millions of dollars to unproven teenagers over and over again just to go 8-4 or 9-3.

If LSU’s donors can’t continue to compete that will affect the team, OP is bitching about the state of college football and how it’s unrealistic to expect all big football schools to be able to do this.

This is equivalent to saying, “why do you care that Nuss broke his arm? It’s not your arm!”

a) It's crazy to pay that much, I'd never do that.

b) We gotta fire that coach. Just pay him the 50 Million dollar buyout.

Is this in reference to any player or a specific player?

Ok so if you think paying a QB $5 million over 3 years is crazy, how crazy is it to you that coaches are being paid $10+ million per year? Also, unless you know the financial situations of the guys that are paying it I don’t know how you could say this.

Even 1 million for a kid out of high school! That is simply rediculous and absurd.

why?

Seems like a lot to me. A 17 or 18 year old out of high school based off of high school evaluations paid a million or more to basically attend a certain school. Because they were great at High School level football? Millions? I mean awesome for them, but that's wild. It's not what NIL was suppose be (pay for play), but clearly it is what it is.

I feel like pro has much better evaluations to go off before investing that kind of money. They are also a professional league full of money.

The market is the market, but I regret it's become a situation of having to root for boosters to spend the most money in bidding wars.

I guess, but again though it's like a 17 year old coming out of High School based off of High School evaluations.

I don't remember what he said that you are responding to, but it sucks seeing local guys that love LSU going to places with more money like A&M. That's just as a fan though. It's great for them, but I don't see how LSU can sustain competing with schools that have richer boosters.

At least in professional football there is still a salary cap and a professional contract. I don't know what makes up these NIL deals, but this stuff is wild to see. I know the number for Nico at Tennessee was reportedly 8 million. Doesn't seem worth it yet, but he's still young.

I'm going to disagree with you.

Buying players is not new. LSU has been getting donors to buy recruits for decades. Even back in 1908, LSU was alleged to have been paying players.

Boosters choose to do it. Boosters choose to buy players, and they have not slowed down.

That's a FALSE equivalency. No one choses to break their arm. No one wants to have their arm broken. Boosters CHOOSE to give money to buy players. There is no gun. There is no robbery. Boosters have always chosen to buy players. There is no reason to think that they won't always will.

It’s lunacy running out of control. College football is a runaway train wreck.

HS baseball players get million dollar signing bonuses straight from HS? basketball players have been able to get in the past as well.

plenty of HS kids get million dollar contracts for sports straight from HS, its no unheard of and no one seems to care all that much

CFB is a multi billion dollar industry. It has plenty of money.

Connor weigmann was #1 qb in his class. And that kid has a huge arm, can scramble, and maybe will end up being a player eventually. But good God can you imagine if we gave him this 1mm a yr deal, and in 3 yrs this is the results you get from the kid. What booster will just continue to pony that up when that's the reward. I get it's an arms race and always has been, but it's gotten so far out of hand.

It's spread over 3 years. For the top QB recruit in the country, with basically a 3 year contract, I don't think that's unreasonable at all. I would imagine a top-tier edge rusher, WR, or DT would get similar money.

Donors can do what ever they want, but if I was a hotshot recruit from a few years ago - right before the pay/no pay cut off I’d be suing the shite out of the NCAA for lost earnings opportunity.

I hope some slimy attorney gets a class action against the NCAA and bankrupts those POSs.

Dave said he’d give 5 mill so Michigan would have a passing game. Could be high school recruit, could be portal qb.
