If he goes undrafted, can he come back to college?
Posted on 5/26/26 at 3:36 pm to lowhound
These days probably lmao
But he's getting picked

We knew this was a strong possibility so at least it isn’t something that we haven’t been preparing for. He would have been a luxury

Supposedly, LSU put together a package that would be double what Graves will make next season in the NBA. I think the staff felt pretty good about that, but in the end, Graves wanted to be in the NBA.

The 18th pick in last year’s draft made $4 million as a rookie- we were gonna pay graves upwards of $8 million?

I can't vouch for any solid NIL numbers, but that's the word. A package double a late 1st-rounder is probably in the $5 million range.

I've been telling people on this board for weeks (and i have ZERO sources), that Wade has a blank check. I'm talking possibly up to $40 million, maybe even higher.
Common sense tells me this. We moved HEAVEN AND EARTH to get him back here. Does anybody really think it's out of the question that Wade told LSU he needed a blank check, especially in year one for him to make the move back to BR?
It isn't hard to read between the lines if you pay attention.
It didn't take long to figure out once both processes started that we were getting Kiffin and Wade at LSU. The boosters are DONE flucking around in the 2 sports that matter.

Zero chance he has a $40mil if this is the roster he has been able to put together. On top of the travel and eligibility issues he will go thru to get said players.

Not saying it's $40 million, I'm saying it's whatever he needs. He even said as much when asked. Something to the effect of they're giving me whatever I need to put a quality team on the floor.
If we end up settling for fall back options, it may only be $15-20 million or so.
If the right players are signed, I think he'll have what he needs.
It's logical to assume that along with restructuring almost the entire athletic department to get Wade, significant NIL support was promised as well.
Imagine what Graves and Montero would have cost if we had pulled them. Along with the other pros he signed and is after.

I think we’ll be fine if we get a good ball handler but I just don’t see what the logic was in totally neglecting the early portal

They weren't neglecting anything, they simply missed on a handful of guys and pivoted strategy

5/27 roster update:
I have been told we are not done adding contributors for next year (don't have a name). Im assuming Ryan Hampton is the last piece but I haven't told about it specifically.
Don't have any updates on eligibility other than the staff feels good about everyone. Will also still probably add a couple developmental/low cost guys So the roster will look like this:
Guards: Madar, Ugo, Bashir, TBD, Nunez
Wings: Luis, Niang, Dioubate, TBD
Bigs: Santos, Dessert, Ruzic, TBD

Wade actually said only 9.4% of the guys in the portal would even get playing time for him. That's pretty specific, and shows he and the staff actually graded every player in the portal.
I guess after missing on the early ones (Thunderbird pointed this out) he really wanted, he shifted to the overseas strategy which he probably always kept as an option in case the portal didn't work out, and here we are.

There were nearly 5,000 players in the portal.

Yea I think our ideal portal was something like
Aidan sherrell
Mcneil
Haggerty
Graves
Mo Dioubate
Probably add a few of the international guys

Not that it makes a massive difference but when Wade was saying less than 10% of players entering the portal were LSU quality I think he must have been referring to D1 players only which is like half that number.

There were 1500ish according to On3
