I agree what these kids don’t understand that with the portal you don’t have to fork over a shite ton of money. Somebody will always be in the portal that’s better and more experience. Would much rather have Foucha than Matthews. There will be another Safety in the portal after Spring ball if needed.

The True FR that can make the kind of impact needed in his first year for insane deals to be worth it is a VERY SMALL SET of kids... Fournette, TM7, etc...

IMO Perkins is at that level. Matthews, not so much.

In the end, not taking the mercenary money, Perkins proved to be a better kid and I'm friggin pumped.

I hope Matthews hates every second at aTm.

It’s what he deserves.

Not sure if it went down exactly like this—though it may have—but it was clear we were in a last minute bidding war, and I didn’t care for setting the precedent at all, but especially for a safety, as talented as he may be. Maybe a QB or DL to a certain limit, but over $100k/year for a safety? No thanks.

Just to clarify, not saying I’m totally against ever giving a safety a 6-figure deal, I’m just not down with 11th hour leverage playing of us against another school (or more).

How can you offer Matthews more without giving Perkins or what about Boutte more.

One on one in the coaches office, same poster on TOS said records indicate 56 days of skipped school at Ponchatoula this year. If true, he’ll have to grow up fast to be successful at A&M.

Not ideal, but inflation will run rampant with NIL similar to coaching salaries.

Dumbest post ever.

It’s always been this way, it’s just out in the open now.

Isn't it illegal for LSU to be involved with NIL deals?

It definitely makes sense and it's what happened

Dude was playing 2 schools against each other.

Sucks losing an elite talent but you can get a guy out the portal for basically nothing who would die to play at lsu.

The missed 56 days of school is interesting.

I thought you couldn’t miss more than 7 days each semester in high school unless you had a doctor excuse?

It’s more than “interesting.” If true, he wouldn’t have been on my board at all. That’s not somebody you can count on anyway, especially after giving him money. No thanks. He can be somebody else’s 100% guaranteed future discipline problem. Again, if true. I have no idea.

How much are we talking?

I'm friends with a coach on the Ponchatoula staff. He told me A$M came back with 175k to sign and 150k every year he's there. Definitely a bump from the 100k to sign and 100k each year in school that was reported.

I can't help but think his family was behind this game more so than the kid.

Let’s cut the bs. Are we really supposed to believe that Saban, Jimbo, Kelly..etc. don’t have a say in this and aren’t in the loop? How else would these boosters know who and who not to go after?

Of coarse they’re involved. Coaches never followed the rules before, so why would they start now, when the NCAA has absolutely no teeth anymore?

We have plenty safeties available.

and I believe aTm is deep in safeties too...Matthews could find himself riding the bench and suddenly wish to come home in which case you get him at a lower NIL deal in the transfer portal...
