LSU boosters had the money for Matthews when A&M offered an insane number. Kelly said no.

Believe what you want from this, but LSU had a big time deal for Matthews, and Kelly basically called off the dogs and said wasn’t worth it.

Wasn’t going to get in a bidding war.

Prior to AM offering an insane number for Matthews, LSU had deals lined up for Matthews and Perkins pretty good. Perkins was happy with LSU, and told AM and they panicked and went full house on Matthews. LSU had the money ready for a counter and Kelly said no.

Matthews was gonna keep doing this until he got the most money out of it. LSU backed out. It was a good call IMO.

As much as I wanted Mathews, I would rather have players who want to represent the program and win games, than players who are just in it for the money. At least this shows that we can compete with the texas schools when it comes to NIL.

Great news if true. It means we didn't get punked and have the juice to compete. You can't lose an in state recruit for money but you can let him go for being a problem.

I think this a great thing. It is good to set a limit and not get in bidding wars.

Good call. I don't want another Eli Ricks. Good player who is just in it for himself and doesn't care about the team. We need good players who are team players and yes, pay them. I get it. If they're a 5 star, then they should get paid. But, the "me first" mentality won't go away and the team will suffer. We still have to put a team together that will compete together.

I agree what these kids don’t understand that with the portal you don’t have to fork over a shite ton of money. Somebody will always be in the portal that’s better and more experience. Would much rather have Foucha than Matthews. There will be another Safety in the portal after Spring ball if needed.

Wasn’t linebacker a bigger need?

We have plenty safeties available.

Jacoby Mathews and Eli Ricks were completely different situations.

Mathews overslept a mandatory event during his official visit. Kelly was not a fan of his after that.

It’s funny because it’s not even a position of need to Aggy either. So Matthew’s is just part of a crowded room over there

Perkins was worth spending the money on, he will make an immediate impact for us and would have made an impact for the Aggies.

None of it is NIL. This is just the usual bidding war and LSU did fine before NIL and they'll do fine as it goes on.
