I’m not sure if this is true or not but I was told the staff rather than taking a large number of transfers position players is making NIL pitches to some of these freshmen pre draft
I think I remember someone alluding to that earlier this thread. Saying that with rosters shrinking, Jay is trying to focus on building the best base through high school that we can. Personally, I like this approach. It just tests my patience when I see shiny toys in the portal

I don’t have any inside information but this is what I proposed as a possible reason we weren’t landing as many portal guys. We know that we have one of the top NIL funds so if it’s not being invested in the portal then it’s going somewhere. Jay also saw this year that you can win a natty while having freshmen significantly contribute. Maybe the high school guys are better than what we can find in the portal at positions of need?

why does it have to be a conspiracy theory?
maybe LSU just has better players vs what has entered the portal, huh

I mean that’s basically what I just said.

It makes very good sense. You already have a really good core pitching staff returning. Grab a couple portal guys as bridges and develop the freshman kids because you will have them 2-3 years.

The problem is getting them to stick around if they don't play year 1. Costello and Ryan both likely had a role on this team in the future but there was clearly no path to playing time their freshman year and they should've known that going in. Yet they transferred anyway. Sometimes these things don't make enough sense to be predictable

Yep, you certainly don't always know who is going to stick it out. Sometimes the guys realize they will never be good enough to start for LSU, I think that is the case with Ryan. But then you have gems like Ethan Frey who keep working and earn their way to a prominent spot.

Your thread, huh?
Just chuckle at the off-hand joke that 3 of our 2025 SS recruits are 6'3", 6'3" and 6'5".

Sometimes it's just luck of the draw as to who else is out there.
Larson got Curieled. It happens.
When the dugout is chock full of elite, there's no guarantees anywhere.

It’s hard to imagine Stanfield improving on his stock. I don’t see him adding power, so you know what you’re getting in him. I’d be surprised to see him return unless he drops hard.
In the recent interview with Doucet, Jay makes a comment about the outfield for next season and he only mentions Curiel and Brown.

He mentioned stanfield as a potential major leaguer along with Kade, Anthony, Jones, and Luis

Interesting, if thats true, then stanfield may just be tired of college life. Because obviously he wont get drafted high, if at all

We appear to be stepping it up on Volchko.
Guessing he’s visiting this week.

We are on Maika Nui the Marshall SS who was w UNO 2 years ago.

Stanfield will get drafted, just may not be a high pick. Rounds 10-20 can be a crapshoot.
