If Joe Sloan takes the ECU do y’all think that’ll have any impact on Bryce’s commitment ?

Sloan and Baker will leave for power 4 jobs. The days of these guys taking high risk jobs in the NIL and revenue sharing era are over.

Have to imagine that it would. We know that LSU would match the offer to keep Sloan as OC.

I like to think that Sloan going to see Bryce this past weekend was a sign that he's staying put

Hopefully ECU ends up hiring the little Riley instead.

I'm not trying to be a "Sloan sucks!" guy but why would ECU think he's ready to lead a team?

He's a smart guy who most definitely understands the QB position. But he's still very much learning to be a competent OC. Making a jump to HC, even at a much smaller school seems like it'd be overwhelming for him.

I just can't see Sloan leaving one of the best coordinator gigs in the country, when he is about to have the most physically gifted quarterback possibly ever at LSU, for a pretty weak G5 gig even if it is his alma mater.

I don't think that he does until Bryce leaves. That's strictly my wishful thinking though

Sloan can do better than that job

Sloan just might be better than the Rant thinks he is. Underwood and ECU are telling us this. ECU probably hired a search /consulting agency to help identify top coordinators who would consider ECU and it appears Sloan made the list.

That's a big part of it.

Depends on who replaces him. As long as the new guy has a reputation for developing qbs then I wouldn’t worry.

I would think this would be his best move if he makes one. Would potentially set him up for a big time job if it all goes well.

Well if ECU offers Joe Sloan just based on this years Offense ,they
deserve what they get.I`m not saying he is a bad coach but it`s obvious
he needs more time to hone his skills as a play caller .He needs more
experience b4 he becomes a head coach.

Sloan stays, underwood lights it up and wins the heisman and Sloan is now a QB coach who has coached 2 heisman winning QBs and an OC for 1 of them. Add a few playoff births and a NC and he will have P4 jobs thrown at him.

Obviously, but this is just Michigan/ECU wishcasting. Top end P5 coordinator jobs are better jobs than G5 head coaching jobs in 2025. They have the same pay but the coordinator job has better job growth and more stability.

Going from LSU to ECU is like going from Amazon to Temu.

Hes at the top of the list and is the most unlikely hire they have.

If Joe Sloan takes the ECU [job]

Just FYI, there's a 0.000000% chance that Sloan would leave for ECU (presuming his decisionmaking process is even remotely rational/motivated by objective considerations).

For one: ECU's HC makes $2.4m this year. Sloan is making $1m/yr right now, and assuming that we do actually want to keep him that would probably jump to at least $1.5m and maybe more if another program came sniffing around.

For two: Sloan's in a position currently where he gets to work with the absolute best talent, has the absolute best facilities and resources at his disposal, and is operating on the biggest possible stage--a stage where success, even as a coordinator, will open doors to even the most rarified (and lucrative) opportunities in the sport--AND has the best QB prospect of the past ~5-7 cycles coming in next year.

So the question is two-fold:

1) What is the easier path to his ultimate goals? If you're an offensive coordinator at a top SEC program, you'll get major P5 HC interviews if you can have consistently elite units for a few years (e.g. kirby, kiffin, sark, lanning). If you're a G5 HC, you'll get major P5 interviews if you dominate your conference for an extended period (e.g. kiffin again, napier, drinkwitz). So which is easier: Coordinating bryce underwood- and then hopefully (if it even takes this long) elijah haven-led offenses to elite levels? Or taking an ECU program that, in the past 10 seasons, has made 1 bowl and has been above .500 in conference play 1 time, and turning it into a perennial AAC championship game participant? From where I sit, it's DEFINITELY the former. Even more so when you consider that the ECU route is made even more difficult by the new world we live in with NIL and the portal: Even if you do your job, you're losing your best guys every year.

2) So then is a ~$1m raise worth giving up an elite scenario and easy path to a shitty scenario and highly difficult path (that likely requires another stop in between)? Given that we've seen a number of G5 head coaches--often at programs of equal or greater stature than ECU--leave for P5 coordinator jobs (e.g. Kane Wommack), I've gotta imagine that the raise is NOT worth it. You don't make generational wealth leaving the LSU OC job for the ECU HC job - but you damn well might make generational wealth if you stick around and pilot successful offenses for a few years.

Sloan knows that if he stays put for 2-3 years and has great success with Nuss and then Underwood, he will get courted by some top P5 jobs that come open.
