Haven will hit the portal. He’s not sitting for 3 years.

Why would he sit for three years at Bama?

Keelon will be a Sophmore this year, meaning he will be on campus at most two years with Haven. If some of the reports out of camp are accurate I dont expect KR to be around for his senior year which would leave one year of overlap.

That means Haven will likely be competing to replace Russell with Thomala/Kaawa/Seaborn as a RFr like KR is now, but theres no scenario where that battle doesnt take place within two years.

Whoever loses that race to take over post KR will transfer, but it wont be because he had to sit behind Russell. I think Michigan is learning the hard way why even with ultra elite QB prospects you dont want to be dropping them into the fire as a true freshman.

You’re forgetting Bama dipping into the portal. This isn’t 2010.

Haven has as high of a talent ceiling as any QB in the country, but he’s raw. Will he wait to develop?

Houston is seemingly ready to play early, especially in a Kiffin system, and he’s accurate and athletic enough to make a difference with his feet. That’s what we want under Kiffin.

Bama hasn't signed a portal QB since Jake Coker back in 2014 and is signing two HS QBs per class right now, I don't think there's any plan to bring in portal guys at that position.

I suspect they don't want to end up in a situation where out of necessity they have to fight an NIL battle for a top tier portal QB where the asking price might be $8M for a guy they think is only really worth $5M out of desperation.

Yeah watching his tape I see a guy who has incredible natural talent who was so far advanced physically relative to the level of HS ball he was playing that he might need some development to become a true downfield passer because he could always fall back on his legs to make plays.

It looked like a ton of QB RPO stuff whereas DeBoer wants to be pass first, QB run a distant second but given the fact that his second option was Georgia I suspect he's looking to develop that way for the NFL rather than leaning in to his natural gifts.

I haven't seen enough quality tape to know how accurate he is but was just on this board to understand why there wasn't interest from either side and to hear from people who might've seen him more live.

There was a kid from Birmingham who at one point was a 5* QB who ended up at Clemson without an offer from Bama and people were freaking out but it turned out the staff just didnt think he was as good as his ranking and went another way, it happens.

didn’t get why Haven wasn’t getting pushed by LSU, was there a bad relationship with BK or were there other guys who were higher on the target list?

b/c he's literally didn't grow up an LSU fan, never wanted to go to LSU, had absolutely ZERO desire to go to LSU, always wanted to go out of state for college, etc...

and it's whatever... personally, i don't think he's going to be all that good, b/c the talent level is about to ratchet up considerably from what he's used to and rated according to...

Bama just had a similar situation with a kid from Birmingham where it just wasnt the right fit and he ended up at Clemson, it happens.

Husan Longstreet will take over the QB position as a redshirt sophomore after this season. Haven won’t be happy riding the pine waiting for Longstreet to finish.

If Deboer can fix that throwing motion and turn him into a QB, more power to him.

It was Florida until Billy was fired. He wasn’t coming here, we all knew that. I’ll wish him the best, new world of CFB.

How strong is Houston's arm?

I don't think for whatever reason LSU put a high number on Haven. Why should they? Portal QBs are way more important right now. You're taking a bigger gamble with a HS QB when you can get a proven QB out of the portal every year.

Whatever Haven's number was I'm willing to bet LSU said no thanks. They probably thought that money could be better fit in the portal.
