I have applied MSM turf to VB in the past and it stunts it but doesnt get rid of completely. I applied Image/Nitsedge (Imazaquin) a few days ago and VB is turning red already. Should I follow with a second dose of Image or hit it with MSM?

No, leave alone for a while. That is a lot of herbicide in a short time.

MSM is only 70% effective on VBW. I would hit it over and over as long as I was just spot treating and not spraying the whole yard. Just spray the weed, not the whole area, if possible. If you cannot hit just the weed, then waiting is good advice.

I've had good success with Celsius in the past but it does take multiple applications, about a month or 6 weeks apart. I've seen good things about MSM for buttonweed, but I always seem to burn my lawn with MSM.

I do intend to wait some time between apps.
I am curious if using multiple products in succession is better than same product in succession. I had heard in the past MSM was only thing that would work on VB but this Image is putting a hurt on it. Never used Celsius but ingredients look interesting!

I have some Mansion that I sprayed on some that was growing in my yard last year. Took about a week, but it killed it.

Did it not come right back a month later?

Virginian Buttonweed is listed on the “Image for Nutsedge” label for VBW control with multiple applications, but that is also true for MSM Turf (=Mansion), Celsius, Trimec, Weed Free Zone, etc. so off hand don’t see a negative in trying to use it for that purpose, particularly if you are spraying for sedges at the same time.

But I don’t see imazaquin as a recommended herbicide for VBW control on any land grant university extension VBW control fact sheet - which may mean the other herbicides recommended have proved to be more effective in VBW control in field research trials. Your call if you want to experiment with image for nutsedge for a follow up spray(s) or use MSM Turf or Celsius. Give the board your follow up assessment should you go with the imazaquin. Do make sure you wait 2 to 4 weeks between subsequent applications.

Patience & Persistence with VBW control.

Yes, I was surprised to see it listed on Image label info.

In my OP I mentioned I applied imazaquin 3 days ago (for several issues) and it has already put a mark on the VB

Celsius was proven the most effective by a study done at a college (can’t remember which)

It did not. Really did a good job on it.

Celsius is the go to. MSM works as well. One thing I always take into account is strength of mix. Label rate Celsius works better than label rate msm. MSM is much cheaper and more widely used. Homeowner Mr Joe mixes label rate plus a dash extra of msm and declares it the winner.

Sprayed my backyard with Celsius at the high rate over the weekend. Backyard is mostly bermuda but man is it a mess with weeds. The bermuda can handle it. TONS of VBW.

My front yard isn't as bad with VBW but it's mostly St. Aug and I spot sprayed with Weed Free Zone. Every time I've hit my St. Aug with Celsius it stunts the crap out of it. I won't use it at all in my front yard.

Celsius does a great job against VBW. Weed Free Zone also does a good job but definitely takes multiple applications.

Wish pasture herbicides like Chaparral (Aminopyralid plus MSM Turf essentially) and GrazonNext HL (Aminopyralid plus 2,4-D) were labeled for Bermuda lawns/turfgrass. Aminopyralid component in both is very good on VBW. Have smoked it in Bermuda pasture edge with the GrazonNext HL.
