Morning baws

I have a 5 year old gas powered chainsaw that continually has problems so went with a semi decent Ryobi electric chainsaw which was awesome. However, they are very cheap plastic and everytime I used it, I had visions of cutting off my arm. No thanks.

Anyone here use battery powered chainsaws? If so, what brand? I was looking at a Makita. Is there a big difference in the 18V vs 20V?

Any input would be appreciated.

EGO, love mine I use it constantly for trimming and small trees. The best thing about electric is you are more likely to use it knowing all you have to do is pick it up and pull the trigger

pairs superbly with the pole saw (same battery). Whatever you get, get a rapid charger

If this is your criteria, you're going to have to go to Home Depot and feel them to find what you like. Everything is make of plastic, it's up to you to determine which one won't give you the vapors by feel.

Same here with the EGO

I cut down a water oak that was about 2' i diameter and about 40' long.
Was able to cut it down and cut into pieces using two batteries, and i bet had i not been cutting continuously it would have last a bit longer.
After using it my buddy went buy one himself and gave up on his gas chainsaw after seeing what it could do.

I have Kobalt 80v things (mower, weed eater) so I got the chainsaw when it went on a daily deal. Used it last weekend to take out 20 feet of big arse holly bushes, it worked great. No big tree experiences yet. Oil is a bit drippy where you set it down, so I store accordingly.

I don't have the chainsaw, but all of the other EGO tools I own are very well made.

I have had the Ryobi 40v for 5 years or so and it’s done well by me. I use it for smaller stuff but also on some decent size trees. I have zero complaints with it. Also have the blower and power head with pole saw and other attachments, they have served me well, too.

I have the EGO polesaw (and edger and string trimmer and push mower)
and that polesaw will zip through anything. Pretty impressed with all of their products.

I have the 20v Max dewalt line of tools and the dewalt chainsaw gets the job done. No complaints. If you have Makita or some other brand batteries, I'd just go with that brand chainsaw.

Nah it's not my criteria - it's just what was available to me at the time. Believe it or not, it was a very good chainsaw for a couple years. Ryobi has upped their game although it's still pretty much 3rd tier.

Same here. I've been using the polesaw as a chainsaw until I figure out what to get. EGO is a pretty decent brand?

Same set up for me. I've used to take down and cut up some decent sized oaks. I have 3 batteries and go can all day with replacing/charging if need be. Had mine for 5 years without a hiccup.

I have EGO everything, I love all my other tools, even the polesaw(which I do not have the oiler issue with) I have had 4 chainsaws replaced under warranty because the oiler will quit working.

I would not recommend the chainsaw because of this.

I'm thinking the 10"/12" would be too small. Some of the limbs which get sheared off in a storm are pretty sizeable.

Appreciate all the input fellas

I also have the Dewalt 20/60v flex 16" chainsaw. Works great but it does eat through the battery. I think you would need 3-4 batteries to get a full decent size tree cut up. I cut 5 6-10" trees last month and with only one battery it took several days to get it all cut up. Im planning on buying some generic batts. on amazon.

I have a DeWalt electric 12 inch bar. Does the job without a problem. Manual says it can cut 96 4 inch cuts on one battery charge. Got it from Home Depot for about 190 bucks

I’ve got an EGO 16” and it is stellar. I use a chainsaw infrequently, so I was having fuel system problems every couple of years. I will never go back to gasoline unless my situation changes.

Actually, Lowes has the EGO on sale for about $220 right now. It comes with the charger and battery as well.

DeWalt Flexvolt 20v/60v chainsaw. Performance is awesome, I have the 20" and the 8" 20v pruning saw and both are awesome!
