Wife and I woke up at 5am with a bat flying around bedroom.

We got the hell out of there and shut the door.

When I had my bearings I went back in but I can't locate the bat. I kind of looked in the places google told me to look but no luck.

Anyone deal with this?

Do I need a professional?

Any recommendations for a bat hunter?

Internet also tells me you should assume you've been bitten if you wake with a bat in your room and seek rabies vaccine unless you can capture animal and have it tested for rabies.

Apparently you can be bitten without knowing and if you develop symptoms you're dead so it's best to get treated.

Low probability but high consequence.

I had one get into our living room many months ago. The little bastard got behind my built-ins and I assumed it went into a hole that was behind there and into the wall. I could hear him scratching. Eventually the sound went away.

I pinned up a sheet between the living room and our hallway and closed our bedroom doors. The next morning I went into my office and the bat was on the carpet.

I tossed a blanket over it, donned some gloves and carried it outside. The scene that night was pretty similar to this scene:

In all seriousness, you NEED to get to your doctor soon for rabies postexposure prophylaxis (PEP).

Yes, do not mess around with this. A small bite or scratch could go completely unnoticed.

This.

I have a friend that lost his teenage son due to a scratch from a bat in his bedroom.

Houston Chronicle article about it.

Call the local health unit in your area. Get the rabies vaccine and rabies immunoglobulin. Yes, they can bite without you knowing if you're sleeping. Been there, done that.

We'll get some TD members to set up an awareness race for you.

Local pest control company should be able to manage this for you.

A bat can hide almost anywhere. Back of a picture frame, behind a television, in AC vent, in a fan, etc. Anywhere a mouse can get plus stuff a mouse would have to fly to. So pretty much anywhere a roach could get.

dude you are on the clock I would have my arse in a ER immediately with your wife. if you wait and have symptoms you are a dead man walking. This is like flipping a coin to live or die, but if you treat PEP you will be fine. Don't be stupid get your arse to the ER.

I sleep with my tv on at night and woke up to see something fluttering around it. Turn the over light on and it s a bat now fluttering around the ceiling light. Grab a towel and catch the little sucker and usher him/her outside. Wake up the next morning and couldn't remember if it was real or a dream.
