Anyone Regret Replacing an Asphalt Roof with Metal?

We can tolerate hail dings the in metal if it means we avoid replacing another asphalt roof after the next big storm.
Does anyone regret replacing their asphalt roof with 24-gauge metal?

Besides up front costs why would you regret it?

Cell phone reception in already weak cell phone areas?

That's probably the way I'll be going when it's time to replace my existing roof. When I bought the house I'm currently in it had an asbestos shingle roof that got seriously damaged in a bad hail storm and needed replacing.
I did so with the 30 year asphalt architectural shingles and it's been a good roof, but starting to near its life expectancy.
I'll bite the bullet for the metal roof in all likelihood when the time comes.

The thing I’ve always been afraid of is if the wind lifts part of it, isn’t it going to peel the entire thing away since the sheets are interconnected?

A properly installed metal roof is far better in high winds than shingles.
It’s why you see them all the time at the beach.

Honestly I enjoy the sound of rain hitting a metal roof. Not sure what your house looks like, but a lot of homes are going with "modern farmhouse" where it's half shingle/half metal. Typical in two story houses. First floor roof is metal then second is architectural shingle.

I can't imagine why anyone would regret it. If your house isn't under a tree it'll likely never need replacing.

My grandfather used a standing seam roof on his camp (weekend home) in the mid 80s and other than it being hot as hell to walk on in the summer I lasted almost 25 years until a pine tore through it in one of the hurricanes. It was perfectly fine and had no leaks at the time.

No doubt there are plenty of old metal roofs out there that weren’t installed well that this is a major issue for.
But for a new metal roof built to S FL hurricane codes you should be good through at least a cat4 hurricane (or an F3 tornado). There are some pictures from hurricane Michael where a metal roofed house is standing in a neighborhood full of blue tarps waiting on shingle repairs.

How often, if ever do the screws need to be replaced? My FIL had all the screws replaced on his metal roof at around 20 years due to the rubber washers dry rotting.

a true standing seam roof has all fasteners below/behind the panels i.e. should never need to replace

Word of warning: don't rely on metal roof manufacturers' online color swatches and visualizers except to get a general sense of the colors.
The metal samples we got from the manufacturer look entirely different from their images online.

It's suggested every 5-10 years. We have never once replaced screws on a metal roof
