Worst outdoor running conditions

To me the worst outdoor running conditions are beginning now. With the heat and humidity, at least here in central Alabama, running at any time in the summer months is an exercise in dealing with demanding conditions.
People who do not run often look surprised when I tell them I'd rather run in 20 degree weather than 90 degree weather.
If I were to rank some select conditions from worst to best it would be:
1. hot, humid summer days
2. humid summer mornings at sunrise
3. pouring down rain (any temperature)
4. windy, cold 20 degree night in winter
5. 75 degree day
6. 45 degrees, calm winds
What would be yours?

Wet and cold. Sucks the life right out of you. Hot and humid is miserable, but it makes you tougher.

I agree. I’ve always said I’m a sled dog when it comes to running. Give me cold any day over August.

I love the cold and I love the heat/humidity. But put any rain in it and nope nope nope.

I ran when it was snowy and icy in the 20's here in Houston over the winter. Also ran yesterday at 4 in the afternoon and 97 degree temps. Give me the snow as long as there isnt ice built up on the road. I thought I might die yesterday, haha.

Can't do it. I have Raynaud's and my hands would hurt too much. I can't run without pain when temps go below 35. Add wind and I'm toast.
I am not a fan of the hot, humid summer weather either but I just slog through it and don't go over 6.2 miles for my longest until it cools off.
So mine are:. 4, 3, 1, 2, 5, 6

When I moved to a place with wind and realized "A constant headwind is like running in mud and sort of fricks with my breathing."

I prefer running in the heat over cold because I feel like I can't breath and my mouth gets dry in the cold.
I really just wish it could it be a cool 60 degree morning every time I ran. Hard to beat that.

Humid doesn't bother me at all
the dry heat is way worse to run in
Is actually great for running from mid 40s to mid 50s

Depends on the type of running for me. In CC season and when doing distance work hot and humid or rain was the worst and cold, even cold and kinda windy was fine if I had the right clothing.
In track season any cold and any wind sucked. There is no worse feeling in the world then coming off the curve and hitting a cold headwind or crosswind. Hot, humid, rain was no problem and even fun.

whoah. that's crazy talk. i grew up in West Texas and cross country season was in the 100s and i had no problems with that.
80s in East Texas and humid is a killer. i'll take those 100 degree CC workouts over a 3 mile run at 6 AM May-September.
in order of worst to best for the OP"
hot, humid summer days
windy, cold 20 degree night in winter
humid summer mornings at sunrise
pouring down rain (any temperature)
75 degree day
45 degrees, calm winds
optimal running for me 40-50 degrees with no wind. that's just right for shorts and a longsleeve pullover. can go forever in that condition.
30s with layers is pretty invigorating as well.

Guess it’s what you grew up in. Give me 100 degrees with 0 humidity every day.

Cold. Definitely cold.
Running in the heat sucks, but running in the cold hurts everything.
And afterwards I always get the shakes and can’t warm up as soon as I stop.

That’s funny. The rush after a 30-40osh degree 5+ mile run is one of the best feelings in the world to me.

Yep. I read an article a while back and they said the optimal temperature for best lung function is 57 degrees.
I’ve done races in 45 degree temps. The first mile sucks but then you feel great

45-50 is perfect. Singlet and shorts. No extra gear.

Hot & Humid is the worst. I would much rather run in 30 degrees than 95.
