Why is weight lifting more fun than cardio

I used to be in great shape in HS and for about a 1 year stretch in college when a group of friends did Body for Life almost religiously and I used to love running and sprints for cardio.
I got back out of shape in grad school and when I first started working. I've gotten back into the habit of strength training with a little bit of cardio mixed in to try and get back in shape.
That wall of text was to set up this question,
Does anyone else dread cardio and genuinely look forward to weight lifting? If so why?

I don't do cardio. It's like the veggies in diet for me. I supplement or boil it down enough to still call it a vegetable but doesn't taste like it anymore. lol

It is but it's like having sex with a prostitute. You struggle to find the morality to use a prostitute so you feel bad but then you just had sex so you are back up again. After you feel good, you feel worn out and depressed cause you are no longer having sex but also that you just had to have a prostitute to have sex. So the jizz of the story is that sure, you get a high (climax) from cardio but you just had to do cardio (prostitute)

Yes and to make it worse I can't help myself but to stare at the clock so it feels 5x longer.

I'll run if it's part of a sport I'm playing. (Poor chance of that lately) or if I'm scared of something. I'm not running to get nowhere. I hate the idea and the execution.

I am taking a few kickboxing classes right now and im enjoying it just as much as I do on weight training days.

the older i've gotten the more i enjoy cardio. especially when training for a race it's pretty cool to look back at the progress you've made.

It's a personality thing. Some people get a high off of a strength feat. Some people get a high off of an endurance feat. I find cardio is just as much mental toughness as it is physical fitness. That's the draw to a lot of people doing the ridiculous endurance events like ultra marathons and long distance triathlons and such. The mental and physical challenge is the prize. And the mental part isn't just in the event itself. It's the challenge of the day in and day out training for months.
Not saying lifting doesn't have it's own day in and day out challenges. Just that some people feed off of different goals. I hate running, but at the same time, I'm itching to get back out there and run since I'm limited to about 30 minutes at a time due to an injury. I miss it when I'm not doing it. Same as many lifters hate leg day, but at the same time love the pain that comes with the accomplishment afterwards.

That makes sense. The only time I've genuinely enjoyed it was when I was setting goals for myself. What I did was tell myself I'm gonna run 5 more minutes than the last time I ran (I usually ran every other day or so). It was also refreshing not having to worry about how far I went. I hate running for a distance goal. The time goal is better to me for some reason. Anyway, when I started doing this I ran for 15 minutes and built it all the way up to an hour. But after a couple of times running for an hour I got burned out because at my core I still hate running

If you do anything with enough intensity it's going to suck. People can do weights (and certain kinds of cardio like biking) with a low enough intensity that they can enjoy it and still pretend they're working out. It's hard to fake running. You're either running or you're not.

I hate cardio because it's easy to cheat. You know when you can kick it into a higher gear. You just don't.
You can't do that as easily with weights because if you do you can get hurt.

I'm starting to like both equally. But definitely favor weightlifting.
Love weight lifting due to the pump you get and progress you can see in your physique. But I love ending each weight lifting session with fast mile run. I shoot for 6 minutes but usually hit 6:15. On lighter weight days I try for 2 miles in 13 but usually goes a bit over. Huge high to end the day. I do like the fact of building endurance also.
For the record though I need music or else it would suck and couldn't not get the motivation to run faster.

That's why I love CrossFit. Cardio doesn't seem like cardio & my strength & stamina increase simultaneously

To me, cardio can mean a lot of very different things. I'll always love playing basketball but not running/jogging.
Running sprints seems necessary every once in awhile and I don't mind it.
Group classes (cardio) like versions of HIIT, BodyAttack, kickboxing are usually fun and the challenge of trying to keep up with everyone else makes me feel like I'm working at max capacity.
Weight lifting is also enjoyable because it's more of an alone time and an ingrained habit.

Because you aren't out of breath. I hate running, but I walk every day at least for 30 minutes a day. I usually try to get in 5 miles.

I'm not talking about half assing on he weights but rather going full throttle on both exercises.
A previous poster said it's about the mental goals and achievement and that seems to be an awesome answer. I just love the fact of picking something heavy up and moving it and I guess that mental challenge gets me going.
To each his own. I'm probably just too out of shape right now to truly "enjoy" cardio at this time
