The new food rating system from Tufts University scores sugar cereal over beef and eggs

quote:

Tufts University touts the Food Compass as the “most comprehensive and science-based” nutrient profiling system to date that “clears up confusion to benefit consumers, policymakers.” Created by a team of Tufts researchers under the leadership of Mozaffarian, the project ranks 8,032 foods and took three years to complete.

What kind of dystopian world has nutrition “science” entered into whereby a university, a peer-reviewed journal, and one of the field’s most influential leaders legitimize advice telling the public to eat more Lucky Charms and fewer eggs? Simply eyeballing these recommendations should be enough to know this diet is a get-sick, diabetes diet, a high-carb, sugar-laden, candy-coated highway to ill-health.

Why does this matter?

Because these are the same assholes the White House is going to be looking to to create new, ruinous government food guidelines.

"Egg substitute fried in vegetable oil is WAY higher than "boiled or poached egg". Seriously, what the frick? What the ever fricking frick?

Good chart to use if you want to build muscle. Just flip it upside down.

The best part of that is that it's not even true.

The system is built for Americans to get fat and unhealthy so healthcare companies can get rich.

At some point, I will have to join you in believing it's intentional. How can anybody look at the charts of the last 40 years and think "oh right, beef and eggs are the problem?".

The fake eggs in seed oils almost feels like a direct troll job.

People love to call you a lib, but I’ve noticed your posts over the years and think you’re one of the more nuanced posters here. I think we’ve reached the point now where we can’t pretend that the powers that be want what’s best for us.

Big Scrub is a lib and he supports the people that came up with this chart. Hopefully this is eye opening for him because politics aside he seems like a good guy.

No way people will actually buy into this BS right?

Healthcare companies are becoming a real problem. Call me a conspiracy theorist if you want

Nope. Big Scrub is a center-right, quasi-libertarian who tells it like it is AND voted for Trump. I also had the pleasure of voting for Tiffany Smiley for Senate (quixotic, I know).

Thank you for saying this, but you really should know - I DO NOT support the "people who came up with this chart".

The only thing that holds me back is I always default to Occam's Razor of Stupidity - I think it gives these idiots too much credit to allege some grand plot. Instead, I think it's more akin to institutional inertia and groupthink.

Almost all the people in my close circle eat the exact opposite of this crazy shite. And to a person, they are some of the most fit people I know. The idea that animal protein is poisonous truly boggles my mind.

If it's codified in the new govt guidelines, I'd say it's all but a certainty.

I have to always remind myself I live in a bubble. Most of the people around me are avoiding seed oils and cheap carbs and maximizing animal protein. But I still routinely come across educated, affluent professionals who think I'm crazy when I fry up an egg in butter.

Zero doubt in my mind they will. These are the same people that are STILL selling the 2000 calorie diet and food pyramid whether you’re 5’0” or 6’10”

He's really not.

At the risk of white knighting, the only area where he generally doesn't hold a "rightist" perspective is on race/race relations. Where I disagree with him, I've simply chosen not to engage with him. Mainly because I know how some of these boards can be when someone differs from the consensus and people pile on.

He always posts measured and well-reasoned arguments, and has been posting info critical of the mainstream health and nutrition agenda for quite a while.

Perhaps you're under the impression that refined grains covered with refined sugar are bad for you?
