I take Crestor 10mg once a day and have never had an issue with it.
I did not want Lipitor as there is more likely to have myalgias with that one. Hyperlipidemia runs in my family and I put off taking a statin for too long.

Why? Based on what? Myths, Old wive's tales, scientifically unsupported click bait, anecdotal stories?
Got a link?

It all seems to come back to the same thing. Building up of plaque in the blood vessels. Heart…you have heart attacks. Brain…you have dementia.
I had high calc scores so was put on atorvastatin and low dose aspirin. My whole dad’s side of the family has heart issues so I didn’t question it.
I’ve also been drinking Pom juice (real not from concentrate) pretty regularly for several years. That’s supposed to help.
Recently found out that Nattikinase also is beneficial but it reduces clotting so you have to be legit careful about taking it with aspirin. It can thin your blood too much and cause bleeding issues. There are studies though that it actually reduces plague…but again it’s not to be trifled with if your on blood thinners or blood pressure meds. I take 4,000 FIUs first thing in the morning on an empty stomach and saw an immediate improvement in my blood pressure.

Nah man, exactly what I was talking about, where's your link?'
Here's mine, a 2025, 7 million patient study.
Guess what they found?

Group analyses by gender, statin type, and diabetes status. Fifty-five observational studies including over 7 million patients were analyzed. Statin use significantly reduced the risk of dementia compared to nonusers
Statins greatly DECREASE the risk of dementia

I was on Crestor with light side effect of muscle cramps in my forearms. Switched to 20 mg Pravastatin. 2 years and good. I do take a coq10 daily with it. I take both at night. From what the doctor tells me the 20 mg pravastatin is a very low dose statin.

You might want to look into this when it comes to your statins:
LINK
Statins reduce cholesterol, which most people do NOT realize is that:
Our body produces cholesterol, mainly in the liver, which we need to survive. Every one of our 70 TRILLION plus cells in our body is encapsulated with cholesterol.
Our brains consist of about 20% cholesterol. Statins reduce cholesterol. Well, something is not right here.
Here is something else to consider, most Doctors who prescribe statins recommend that you supplement with coenzyme Q 10, that vital is vital to brain function.
There are so many side effects of these statins that it is scary.
Why take the risk when eating a proper diet is so much better?
quote:
Some Statins Appear to Increase Dementia in Patients With Mild Cognitive Issues
Does the use of some of the most commonly prescribed statins significantly increase the risk of developing dementia in patients with mild cognitive impairment?
Research presented at the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging 2021 Annual Meeting advises that positron emission tomography (PET) scans of lipophilic statin users revealed a highly significant decline in metabolism in the area of the brain that is first impacted by Alzheimer's disease when those cholesterol-lowering drugs were used in certain circumstances.
In other words, according to the University of California at Los Angeles authors, taking lipophilic statins—which include atorvastatin, simvastatin, lovastatin, fluvastatin, cerivastatin, and pitavastatin—appears to more than double those patients’ risk of developing dementia compared with those who do not take statins. While hydrophilic statins focus on the liver, lipophilic statins are distributed to tissues throughout the body.

Ugh you might want to grab a calculator and subtract your 392 research subjects from my 7 million. Tell you what, I'll save you the trouble and do it for you--
7,000,000.00 - 392 = a 6,999,608 difference.

Someone else mentioned Zetia and you should ask your doc about it.. generic is ezetimibe and its often used when folks don’t tolerate statins and sometimes in combination with a statin

I'm glad you posted that study. I've been on statins on and off now for 15 years. I got off a few years ago worried about the dementia stuff. Then my doc really got on me when I was approaching 300 ldl to get back on statins. I wasn't eating that great nor working out at that time. Anyway, he put me on 40mg rosuvastatin. In the past 6 years I started working out and eating better so last year I went to 20mg. Still testing well and under 190 but still nervous about brain function as my memory has completely gone to shite over the last 5+ years.

Don’t take it. You can do other things. Conditioning seems okay, might consider the low fat diet among other things.

Same, but I just started a week ago. It's funny, when he prescribed it he told me not to read online about them because I'll see nothing but horseshite. Statins are easily one of the most studied and prescribed classes of drugs in the world. If there were legitimate issues then it would be affecting people by the millions and impossible to ignore or hide.
He kind of had a point.

I saw recently that there is a solution on the horizon that involves isolating a gene in the liver that allows the bad cholesterol to be made. I realize that there is an opposite reaction to some of the medicines but until better breakthroughs come that are a better alternatives I’m following my doctors advice and taking the statin. I did a cac test to see if it was necessary. I asked the tech nurse to allow me to see on his screen. The calcium deposits show up white and upon seeing one just in front of my heart I realized that some action was necessary. Really it’s what you can’t see that should scare you and that is the soft plaque build up that can break away causing a reaction that results in a heart attack. Not taking a medicine that can reduce that risk or thinking you can adjust your diet or taking some natural herb or grain seems a greater risk. Hopefully a better medical answer to avoid the statin and it’s side effects will be available sooner than later.
