Due to crazy heat I did the bike Monday and Wednesday to at least manufacture a breeze. Decided to run my 3.5 today, and it sucked. The sweat does nothing. I wasn't that much slower, but it took 45 minutes to cool down enough so I wouldn't just keep sweating after a shower. I hate summer. Yes I'm whiny.

I fricked up today, and went for my “morning” jog at 1pm.

Weather wasn't terrible this morning, but I gave blood Wednesday and felt it. You can see the 8 week donation cycle in my times. I eat tons of iron, can't make that first run back unaffected though.

I’ve been on the peloton all week. Just too damn hot out. Tweaked my hip flexor but hoping to get back on the roads when we start getting regular PM storms to cool things down a bit.

Happy to be back & running.

All 5k/10k stuff for me moving forward, I've learned what works best for me mentally.

I knew I had to quit in Jan 2021 when I set my half PR....I didn't enjoy a single second of it and riding back I was checking my training app worried about the next day's 15 mile run. BRM is a good & honest dude and we had a long call..... I just was not into it mentally and it became a source of stress , not an outlet.

I've lowered my bodyfat, focused on HIIT & heavy lifting & core work. I feel much stronger and balanced with this month's easy runs to adjust to heat.

Hopefully as training & races kick off again for us, this thread will get back to a technical resource where the truth is given to anyone who wants it..even if it hurts their feelings, it all comes from a good place. There is really some great advice on here from some very strong runners.

Good call. When it becomes more of a chore than something you enjoy, your performance suffers. I hope I can get some good races this fall/winter. It's just so damn hot trying to do anything right now.

welcome back! different strokes for different folks. there is a time and place for everything and you can always go back to longer runs in the future but in the meantime make sure you focus on what makes you feel good and happy not the pressure from what others might be doing..

What training program do y’all use to prepare for a marathon? I plan on sticking to cross training maybe 4 days out of the week while doing so.

I’ve ran a few half marathons at around 1:45-55. Just worried about ankle soreness that I get when I start running more throughout the week.

The last 2 mornings have been great. My max heart rate was 145 and 135. Last week I got to 171.

I’m still trying to figure out my legs/feet. Some days I get super shin-splinty, some days my right foot goes numb or feels like it wants to, same days my hips are bugging me. Don’t know if it was being sedentary for 2+ months during tax season, shoes, socks, or all of the above…but I’m tired of having crappy runs.

I’m struggling badly with this right now. Not sure if it’s because I took a couple weeks off due to getting covid, or because I’ve gotten back into weightlifting again and I’m beating up my lower body.

My main source of discomfort is my calves.

Was just looking for races in the Nola area for fall/winter/spring, noticed on rock n roll website, they have an "important race update" which spells out the reasons why there will not be a race in 2023, or at all going forward or that matter.

Wow so New Orleans no longer has a flagship half/full option. Lost the Jazz Half and now this.

Reading some stats here in starting to think something is either wrong with me or with the way I run. 3.5 miles average pace around 8, but my HR average is 175. I'm struggling to breathe the whole time, every run, for my entire life. I thought it was just that my lungs suck, which they do, but when I switch to bike I ride for 40 minutes, 10 minutes longer, and it is harder on my legs. My legs aren't tired after a run, they are beat after a ride. HR average is lower and the max is lower on the rides, even with multiple tough climbs.

So might my running form be so bad it's the problem? I don't know what about it to evaluate.

Age is a big factor but 175 avg rate is pretty high. Sounds like you might need to slow your pace at least on some runs. Lots of good stuff available online on HR training you might want to check out. Trying to improve doesn’t mean pushing it hard every time you run. Variety of paces and terrains can really work in the long term.

I only run Mon, Wed, Fri, same 3.5 miles. 10.5/week. Mainly because that's the time I have. In the summer when there is light and it's hot, I'll make one of those a bike ride per week to force some breeze on me.

I don't know how to run slower, it becomes a shuffle, which I feel is more work. I can walk fast at 10.5 minute/mile pace. This itself might point to my form being shite. My stride might be way long. I'm burning the calories and getting a workout, but the way I do it probably isn't sustainable into my 50s.

I'm 43, 5'11", and have weighed about 170 for the past 20 years.

hello, run bros.

I think I am going to tackle the marathon again, and I am looking for a training plan. I'd like to continue lifting and also cycling for cross-training. My goal will be to finish in four hours (which was my original goal, but I missed it by 16 minutes).

As some of you may know, I did the three-day running training (sprint run, medium distance MP run, long slow run) for the Houston marathon. By the end of the training, I was running a fourth day because I didn't feel prepared enough. Nevertheless, I did not meet my time goal, but there were other factors weighing into that other than simply a training plan.

I look forward to your suggestions and thank you for all the help
