After suffering through this ridiculous heat, but still being able to slowly increase my mileage, I finally got fricked with Covid for the first time after traveling to Wisconsin for my brother’s wedding.

It’s been about a week and a half since I’ve last run. I was running about 4-5 days per week. I’m just now at the point where I’m thinking about starting back. I’m still really congested in the sinus region, haven’t been able to taste anything going on about 4 days now which sucks, but can take full deep breaths. For those that have dealt with restarting their running programs after Covid do you have any recommendations, things to look out for? Should I just jump back into my program where I left off, or plan on having to slowly build back up again. I imagine my body will probably tell me to frick off trying to jump straight back into it, but curious to see what kind of issues others may have had getting back into regular running again.

Had Covid mid-May and it was pretty mild for me. Based on what you said, I’d guess you’ll be building back slowly a bit.

Been quietly getting in some miles this summer. I'm ready for cooler weather.

Strava said relative effort 102 today. I thought it capped out at 100. I hate August.

Its relative to your average effort. Wouldn’t put much into it. If you felt like you were running at a normal effort then it was likely a normal effort.

So, starting to look forward to Fall/Winter racing. Looking at maybe the St Jude Half or the Panama City Beach Half. I’ve done St Jude’s before and it’s a great race but Memphis kind of sucks as a place to visit. Anyone done the Panama City Half?

Interesting, I'm usually 80-90 and I've only seen it hit 100 a few times. Maybe it doesn't have enough data on me, I've only used for 6 months or so. Today was nasty and hard though.

On an easy day, mine is in the mid to high 20s. On a hard day mine is well into the 100s. Feel like it is generally based on your avg heart rate.

My first workout after covid was a simple walk, and the next day was an uphill walk. I continued to ease into things (light jog) for the first week or so.

Hey all - figured this may be a good place to post and get some feedback/suggestions since I am relatively new to distance running. I am running my first marathon in mid-October. I currently am following a program that I made based off a Hal Higdon program and mixing in some interval runs that I get from my Nike Run Club marathon plan.

I'm shooting for a 3:30-3:35 finish.

Am I the only one that absolutely can’t run in the heat?

If I don’t hit the road by 6:30am, my only chance for a decent run is on the treadmill.

I might be an exception to the rule, but I thrive in the heat since I know it makes my cooler weather runs a lot more approachable. I enjoy the detoxifying nature of heat-induced conditioning.

I'll preface by saying I'm from south Louisiana and moved to central Texas almost 6 years ago. I have a background as an athlete in multiple team sports college and post college also and have been doing CrossFit almost 8 years now.

I typically have longer training runs Saturday and / or Sunday mornings at 7:00 or 7:30 and also Thursday afternoons at 4:15 with two guys much faster than me in short, intermediate, and long distances. The Thursdays runs are typically shorter in the 5-6 mile range and more unpleasant than the "cooler" and longer weekend runs.

Running in the heat is unpleasant for all involved including those conditioned to extreme heart rates associated and acclimated to metabolic conditioning workouts in poorly ventilated garage gyms where your eyes and ears hurt and feel like body is about to explode.

This is what I should’ve done. Instead I just tried to jump back in and really really struggled. So much that I took too many days off, and now I’m having trouble getting myself motivated to start again.

Think I will just start back with some jog/walking.

Because I’m such a prodigious sweater, the liners in my new Brooks Ghost 14s are already coming undone.

Anyone have any recommendations for a new liner/insole?

Can you take the ones out of your old shoes? That's what I've done in the past when the insoles bothered me on new ones. I've never worn them all the way out though.

I went for my first run in over a month. It sucked. It will get better in two weeks.

Injuries suck.

How's everyone else doing?
