I look like I jumped in a pool after every run where it's above 60 degrees. Today was because it was raining - first time it rained during run time since I got the Winflo shield whatever they are, and feet stayed dry and grip was good. Solid 60 bucks I think.

That is terrible about the guy at the BK. Could they make everyone wear monitors or have a way for the watches to share heart data to people tracking that kind of thing? I think my watch detects afib. I'm sure it is a ton of really high HRs, maybe there are specific things to look for outside of that.

Saw that on the news yesterday. I recall some being carted off in Chicago last October. Those conditions are brutal, especially if you are not acclimated and don't adapt your race plan to accommodate.

I love my Garmin Forerunner 235. Haven't had issues yet. It's also a nice daily watch.

10km done this morning. Not a race, just a solo run with a little bit of surging thrown in. Had to take a break every ~2 miles to stretch my knee and get some water. Crazy how 80 degree temps and a dew point of 60 is considered "good" running conditions right now, comparatively

Ran an easy 5K for the first time since having a bike wreck earlier last month (I’ve recovered and been biking a good bit).

Extreme humidity and not even the slightest whisper of wind. I was suckin’ wind, baws.

My Strava recap came in this morning and I ran 66 miles over 15 runs in May. It's not much, but it's the most consistent running I've done since college, I think

A big part of it has been having to stretch, roll, and strengthen. For the last 10 or so years I've been derailed by little injuries and thought each one would be the one that makes me hang it up for good. Feels nice to be pretty pain free again.

Anyone here like marathons?

I finally did one, and after the halfway point it just became a miserable experience I don’t think it is the distance for me.

It's my favorite distance and seriously I can not run a race shorter than marathons these days as it is just not as fun

Before I got into Ironmans I would run about 6-8 marathons a year. In 2019 I did the Kentucky Derby Marathon in late April and then a week later did the Flying Pig in Cincinnati.

Nothing wrong with not liking the marathon distance but what made it such a miserable experience? It a personal choice but before just writing off the distance if you provided the slightest bit of detail others here might be about to help as I'm sure many have experienced the same.

this board use to actually have good discussions, not sure what happened.

I just mentally lose it after the half. I handle the half perfectly fine. But my whole body is just like “frick you” after that halfway point. I eat and drink, train. Body just doesn’t want to continue.

My half split is probably top 30%-40% of the field, I drop to about 75%-85% at the full.

What kind of training plan are you following for a full marathon? It sounds like something you should be ironing out on your long runs.

Pretty standard, work up to like 20 miles then taper off. I will say that I run trail races like 95% of the time, still getting used to road.

Maybe I'll give it another go next year, something incredibly flat and "fast". I'll do some shorter races to get my confidence back up first though

You should be running multiple 20 mile long runs before a marathon. Most plans go up to 22.

Anyway, Covid finally got me. Mostly mild except for shortness of breath which has been an absolute bitch.

Alright, I'm joining this thread. First marathon it's time. Always been a casual runner. Soccer player, Can run up to 10 miles pretty easily, only ventured beyond that occasionally, maybe a few times a year when I had the time. Weekly mileage pre-training is 20 miles or so on average over 3-5 days of 3-6 miles. I don't expect this to be easy, but I have a decent base to build from.

Marathon date is in early October so training started this week.

First question - Anyone here run in minimal shoes or at least zero drop? I've pretty much switched to that for the last 10 years in everything and put all my mileage in Merrell Vapor Gloves, so 5mm soles with the thinnest of insoles. I have no ankle or knee problems. I know I can't do the marathon in that, but I definitely don't want typical 1.5 inch monster shoes.

Look into Altra shoes if that’s what you want. I rotate between escalante and hoka rincon 3.

The Escalantes were probably at the top of my list based on research. Good to know I'm looking at the right thing.
