Both my legs still feel like their about to damn near come off. This morning’s run was misery. I didn’t even finish the damn thing.

Well, once I figured out that the course wasn’t closed and between traffic and the train that there was no hope for a PR, I pumped the brakes. Little kid couldn’t have been 13 yrs old. They were giving prizes in order of finish so I waited on her and cheered her across the line. Gave her a fist bump at the end.

Weird race. It was fun. Will do it again.

1st run since marathon and done in the rolling hills of East Texas.

Didn't know how my mind & body would respond but I'm physically fresh & 100% ready for another marathon training cycle.

This was my longest break of the year and most days off since my cast came off.

Easy 20 this am, 8:48 pace, 149 avg HR. For you Marathoners, how far off MP are your 18+ easy runs? My plan doesn’t call for me mixing in any MP miles to my long runs until later in the plan. Just curious as to what others have found as far as training paces

And my legs are anniha-molished after 5K race Thurs and 20 this am.

All of my 20ish mile runs ended up being around 8:30 and depending on weather in the 150 HR range. That ended up being about 30 seconds above my MP.

Damn. I did an easy 8 miles today at a 9:00 pace and had an average HR of 160. I am almost 50 though.....

Good stuff, Quail. My GMP is around 8:00 also. Weather was pretty sticky this am, so will target sub 8:30 from now on, as it should only get cooler. Should. Of course VDOT says I’m at a 3:10:00 based on my recent 5K time. Yeah. Right!

Recovery miles today at the local high school track. Feels great out there! Goal was to never get the HR above 150. Paced at 9:45 over 6 miles and had an average HR of 146. Stopped and did a nice stretch routine at mile 3. Favorite day of the week as far as training goes.

Do you recommend wearing trail running shoes for this Wild Azalea race? While I prefer not to, figured I would get your feedback on the type of ground that makes up the trails there.

I always wear trail shoes when I run the Azalea Trail. To me it makes the hills a bit easier to navigate. It is mostly packed dirt and sand but can have a lot of pine straw covering the trails. There a few creek crossings where the ground can be boggy.

I have run sections of the trail in regular running shoes but prefer my trail shoes.

Are you on strava? I have a few pictures of the trail on my strava account

I am a bit nervous I won't be able to break in any trail shoes before then. Hate to lace them up for the first or second time on a 26 mile run.

I gotcha. Thanks for recon. I'm going to look for some trail shoes with minimal lugs. You running the race on Jan 2nd?

I haven’t been on the trails in a couple of months because I was having some foot/ankle issues. It was bad enough on flat ground so I didn’t want to chance it on the uneven footing. It’s finally feeling better so I’m looking to get back out there and may attempt the half.
