Most of the time when I run the wild Azalea trail I don't wear my trail shoes. I always wear an older pair of road shoes that i don't mind messing up..If its been raining a lot though its a must. It can get pretty soggy in the low parts.. The terrain changes up depending on which part you're on. Which distance are you going for ?

Nice. Im considering the half . I have la marathon pretty close to that so I could take it easy and just call it a training run I guess.

Per the plan, 10 x Yasso 800's today as my Marathon Pace predictor for these final 6 weeks of training. Merging this and calculators, spreadsheets, etc. it looks like my target MP will be 7:39/mile, 3:20:00. This seems really aggressive and quite frankly unmanageable to me. That said, it's what everything points to, so I'm gonna train with it and use accordingly.

Like the book says:

"Do not think about having to run MP for 26.2 in these Marathon workouts...You're training on tired legs now, but when you begin to taper, your legs will soon feel fresh and snappy, and MP will feel completely different, especially in the first 10, 15 & 20 miles of the Marathon..."

it's pretty incredible what fresh legs are capable of on race day. trust your training.

Learned this with Marathon 2. Spent too much time on my feet walking in the days leading up to my first. Second, I did very little besides what was in the plan. Major difference.

Short rant incoming:

I hate treadmills and I hate traveling for work after Daylight Savings Time ends. I go to Charleston 5 or 6 times a year and every time between November and March, I'm stuck at work until 6 or 7. By the time I get back to the hotel it's dark and I'm not too comfortable running in the dark in a place I don't really know. I'm stuck on the stupid treadmill where 3 miles feels like 6. Music or podcasts don't help. I can't seem to focus on a movie because I'm having to look down the entire time to see it. It just sucks.

Thanks for listening.

I'd just not run before I got on a treadmill again. I hate it that much.

Got 7 miles in last night at 8:45/min pace. Feels great out there. Last two miles were my fastest. I went and bought some run gloves at lunch. Left them at home when I went running.......

Every now and then the day after I run I wake up with a pain in my foot, kind of top side, inside part. Almost feels like a bone, sharper pain. Eases up some after some walking but lingers all day. Any thoughts?

with it being in the morning, I immediately think plantars, but that is more towards the bottom and heel

Could possibly midfoot impingement or just irritation of the joints of the midfoot bones. These types of issues usually worsen with activity though.

same for me. I would just go do leg work with weights than run on a treadmill.

back running this morning after about a 2 week "break".

easy trackwork. Start next week gearing up for spring events.

15 min. warm up
8x800 med.
10 min. cool dn

try taking a tennis ball and roll your foot on it through out the day for 10min or so at a time. Maybe pinpoint the pain area.

Or did you mean on top of the foot?

I’m coming towards the end of my 10 week half marathon training block. I think it has been pretty effective. It has not increased my speed materially, but I have been able to get some long sessions at half marathon pace or faster during 90 minute runs that feel very comfortable.

What has been a little disappointing is that the increased endurance has not correlated with increased speed. I did a couple of full effort time trials during the last 8 weeks and was disappointed to see no real improvement between 5k-8k distance.

I’m wondering if I switch to a 5k training plan if I could see decent gains there. Would it be crazy to drop a minute off my recent 5k TT with faster, shorter work outs? I’m currently running the 5k about two minutes slower than I did 15 years ago, so I feel like I could make up some lost ground with the right training.

I get some tenderness in the tendons between metatarsals on the tops of my feet. If there is bruising or swelling, you might consider the possibility of a stress fracture.

Knocked out a 20 miler this morning at a 8:39 pace. My longest run ever. Wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. If I can hold that same pace for my first marathon coming up ill be happy.

Nice run. You should be able race 10-20 sec per mile faster than that.

Did your training plan include any tempo or speed work?

You could be under pronating with your run. Could be good to go to a PT and get them to do a body check and gait analysis
