Did anyone else run around BR last night and tonight? Has to be the 2 most humid nights of the year. I think I would have been drier if I went swimming.
When I got home I put my phone in rice just to be safe.

Yeah, this morning was rough. I was slinging sweat all over my poor kid in the stroller

5k race this weekend. First 5k in my area to be held since 'Rona started. It is about time.

anyone looking for an ultra? 50k or 50m option.
Ha, 50 mile road Ultra in New Orleans? That's risky.
I know thibtigerfan from this thread did it last year.

got any more specific questions shoot me a message. I've got some ultra experience and my gf has a lot more with 10+ 100 milers.
Appreciate it, thanks!
I’ve been alternating a high mileage week(90 miles this week) with more of a “strength week” where I’ll only do about 50 miles, but 23 of those miles are tough and hilly trails. Any feedback on that? I’m about 11 weeks out...

yeah thibtigerfan ran the 50k and I recall hearing him say at the finish line he was never running again.... i think that lasted maybe a week.
the 50k course is pretty easy and with a 5am start and of course covid traffic isn't much of an issue. the 19 miles to make the 50m hit the wide open lakefront so sun can be an issue if its a hot one. overall its a good local race that all money after expenses get donated.

you may consider running 2-3 high mileage weeks in a row. you still have time to also work in a 30-40 mile run (long enough to also work out nutrition issues if that is a problem for you) or just a 8hr effort day (running/ walking). sometimes in a 100 miler simple time on feet can be a big benefit. practice walking at a steady pace. this is where people can lose time fast. focus runs in a environment that is similar to what you'll experience on race day. by November heat shouldn't be an issue so if you have treadmill access take advantage of it and make the focus on actual running not battling an element that you may not have to deal with. another big time waster for people....aid stations. if the race has them grab what you need, get situated but keep moving even if its walking.

Thanks, I’ll do all of that. I ran a 50K a few weeks ago and then attempted a 50 miler the next weekend and shite the bed around mile 25 bc i think the overnight low was like 80 degrees and couldn’t keep my HR down enough even running at a slow pace. I’ve been getting up at 2am to get those long runs in before the sun comes up. I’m a pretty muscular dude so I overheat a little easier than most. That’s why this Nov 14 race will be ideal temps (hopefully), but doing that 50 miler in NOLA on Oct 3 may be a little too hot still.

Still having that burning sensation/foot pain when running? I know an ultra runner that developed neuroma and ended up going to a looser forefoot and flatter shoe or something like that.

Did 60 mile bike on Sat. and was suppose to brick. I was having known of that.
6 miles on Sunday again was miserable. The run group did a 12 miler and I just wasn't up for it. I was good with 6 but felt like a slacker.

My GSP and I got 4 in this afternoon. It’s his longest run. Hoping to get him to a 10k by his 1 yr birthday around Christmas.

Track day today. Logged 6:44 and 6:48 mile runs. Super psyched about this.

What is your preparation? Any kind of major warm up leading to the first mile?

I don't know if this is frowned up or not, but I did a 1.5 mile jog to warmup, which ended up being at a 8:45 pace. On my watch I have it setup that I press the Lap button to start the interval training of 1 mile>7 min rest x 2. So my transition into the first mile was not from a dead stop. The second mile I walked 5 of the 7 minutes, then jogged the last 2 to get me going for the 2nd mile interval.

Interesting, I'm going to try something similar to this. All of my 5k runs over the past year have been from a dead stop/light warm up, with me trying to get my best mile time on the first mile and maintaining a slower pace for miles two and three. I need to have more speed in the last half of the run.

Recognizing every is different, I find that my first mile is typically my slowest if I'm running from a dead stop + no warmup. Building endurance seems to help with consistency once my heart rate is up, especially for shorter races like a 5k or 10k. My fastest 5k race time came after a 1.5 mile jog to the starting line.

6 miler today.
The weatherman is teasing us here about a cold front. Not nice when your early morning run is already at feels like 92.

I found out today there is an in-person race next weekend about 2.5 hours from me. Full, half, and 10k distances with. Spots are still available. I could slog through a full but I haven't been training for one this summer. I can crank out a half no problem, but it'd be tough for me to set a PR.
I guess the half is the way to go.

6 mile run tonight after work. It was a bit humid being in-between storms, so I changed it up and threw some hills in for S&Gs. Also signed up for the Old Forge Half Marathon scheduled for next weekend.
