Haha. It said 80% this am. It’s overcast. I would have loved a little rain. Maybe would have kept running.

13.5 this morning at a 9:30 pace. Worked in a couple of fartleks into the run which was fun. It started raining at mile 3. Threw my shirt away at mile 7.

Official 5k time: 23:57
Shaved off a full minute from my fastest ever time of 24:57 on Wednesday. I was feeling that mid week run early on, thighs were killing me. Pushed through and got a time I'm ecstatic about. Some friends were late and luckily we didn't start at 8am like planned. Massive downpour came through around 8:10 and lasted for about 5-10 minutes. Started around 8:20am and had perfect weather for a run. Nice crowd out for a 5k that was initially cancelled but then put back on about 3 weeks ago. Fun people.

Did 25 this morning, started at 3am to beat the heat.
I know this mainly a marathon training thread, but does anyone who trains for ultras start to get foot pain after 25 miles? If so, what can you do about it. Doing a 100-miler in November and the idea of my feet being on fire for the last 75 miles does not sound fun!

We ran through the course as part of our run. It was muddy and not straight. If you did that on a curvy out and back course, you’d do even better on a straight out one.
I thought about y’all when it started pouring down rain.
congrats!

The original route (before covid cancelled it) featured a brutal hill over near Sloss Furnace, so I'd still say this track was a fair bit easier. First time running the Lakeshore trail? It's pretty much un-runable whenever a big rain storm comes through. It was a mess back when central Alabama got that historic rainfall early in 2020. It actually helped break my habit of running it. Most of my runs now take place through and around Homewood/Mountain Brook.
Actually scrubbing my Ghost 12s right now.

We run Lakeshore occasionally. The Bham Track Club long run group runs various routes through Mnt Brook and Homewood. Feel like I’ve been all over both cities in the last 6 months.
We actually saw the dude with bib number 1. They cheered us when we came across the finish line.

I’ve run that mtn/Homewood loop with my dad a few times. His crew also used to do that area religiously then hit up ohenrys. Enjoyable area for a run for sure.

Just finished my long run and now Garmin won’t connect. Oh well, hopefully it will eventually synch. It was a nice little 12 miler.

25 miles you shouldn't be feeling foot pain but everyday is different. the good thing with 100 milers is you have plenty of time/miles for things to get better. Mile 50 you may feel great again only to have that feeling do a 180 on you 2 miles later. Yes you have to physically build up your body/feet to handle the miles but there is also a huge mental game that you have to figure out as well.
Be prepared with a couple pairs of shoes on race day. maybe have one pair a half size bigger to wear the last 20 miles if your feet hurt and swell. have the ability to change socks if they are getting wet or run through sand/grit. that will get in your socks and rub your feet.
got any more specific questions shoot me a message. I've got some ultra experience and my gf has a lot more with 10+ 100 milers.

It should. Mine did the same thing this morning after my run but it was maybe took 30 minutes before my stats were on Garmin Connect and Strava.
I flirted with doing 12 miles today but between waking up and getting out the door I decided on an easy 10 miles. Beautiful day with temps in the high 60s and dry with a good breeze off the lake. Now I'm set up to hit 1k miles by the first week in October, or end if September if I really push myself.

Good meeting with my coach and it's going to be fun to really learn the "why" behind running.
I left understanding how poor my aerobic capacity is , how it impacts me , and what the future will look like after focusing on this. 32 miles this week based on heart rate.
He said many normal guys/beginners push back and only stay with him for a month or so because they want to run fast instantly. They see success as running their Wednesday 8 mile run 1 minute faster than the week before.
He was like , if you want to just run hard every day I can get to you to a 1:48 half marathon this fall. That would be it at your fitness level & I'll eventually burn out or be perpetually fatigued. We will focus on the long term and have a strong Spring 2021 as a benchmark.

I’m excited to see it unfold, man. My aerobic capacity is in the tank now too, although I’m telling myself it’s the heat. We shall see.

You got this. I have 100% faith you will achieve your goals. It just takes dedication and the results will come.

Roots & McVick,
Thanks very much.
It was cool to have someone be straightforward and blunt...he isn't a prick but he was very-->
We are here and this is your step a,b,c. If you want to work I can get you to X, if you want a lighter commitment, great, but I can only get you to Y.
We agreed he can't really motivate an adult. That is for me to do internally. He is there to make every run valuable.

Interesting. Picking up a new run coach and program next month. This seems more legit.
