My problem is I feel like I have to run right up on the screen; it's a mental thing. Any further back and my mind is thinking I'm falling off a cliff.

I only do the treadmill when I absolutely have no other option. Like when the roads here are straight ice/snow.

I once ran 18 miles on a treadmill when training for a marathon. The heat index was 120 that day, and I couldn't afford to miss my long run. I think next time I might opt for the heat stroke.

Running a 5k on Saturday with a goal of going sub 25. I ran 25:30 (fastest time ever) on Friday and 25:59 on Saturday. Haven't ran since and today is Wednesday. What should my running schedule look like until race day? I initially wasn't planning on running at all this week and saving it all for race day, but I'm starting to go back on that and I'm feeling the urge to get out tonight.

You doing that one out in Hoover? Saw it on TV this AM and considered doing it.

No, A Call Away over on Lakeshore. It's actually a 'social distanced' race spaced out among three hours. Stripped down big time from the event last year that brought our 700+ runners.
Ended up running last night and ran 24:57. Rest until Saturday where I'll hopefully do even better.

Man, did you run 3 5K's at race pace within a week of your race? No no no

Did I make a mistake?
Resting today and tomorrow should be enough to get me through Saturday....I hope. Also taking a break from weight lifting and upper body workouts. Chest and shoulders started hurting like hell half a mile in last night.

Yeah. We did a socially distanced race like that this year. Hated it. I understand why. 24 is pretty fast. Good luck!

If I run against the wind today can I take Sunday off?

I decided to do a track workout today, following a simple plan by fellow poster Zappa's Stache. I started with a 1.5 warm-up run to the track, then set my watch for two 1 mile intervals with 7 minute rest periods in between, and finally a 1.5 mile jog back home. Last week my second interval was about 10 seconds slower than the first. Today my second split was 6 seconds faster, so that's an improvement. I think I'll do one more week of this before I add in another mile interval.
I'm still a fatass but today's best mile was 7:01. Sub-7 is within reach.

Full recoveries? Standing? Jogging? Walking?
Posted on 8/28/20 at 8:30 am to TigeRoots
First one I walk the entire time. Second one I walk for the first 5 minutes or so, then lightly jog.
I don't really know what I'm doing, just making some things up.

For a 5k I would do maybe 1 mile at race pace a full week before the race. My work up for 5k on Saturday is easy runs Monday, Wednesday, Thursday. I either go for a walk on Friday or I cut the grass with a push mower just to engage the leg muscles. Running 3 5ks at race pace a week before the race does more harm than good.

6 mile track work in a Suana this morning. I suffered badly and felt awful.

Our long run group looks to be coming through there tomorrow AM. I wonder if they know that race is there?
ETA: looks like we have a bunch of folks in that race. We moved the long run to there so they can do both. Get there at 6AM and when you finish the 3 miles, you can run another 10 with us.
Put in 7 miles on the hills yesterday. Heat and humidity were freaking brutal. I worked in some fartleks for the first time ever. Just randomly sped things up on some straightaways. Still only managed 10 min miles, but had over 700ft of climb.

Thanks for the offer, but not a chance I'm running 10 miles after this 5k.
I'll be out there at 8am with some friends. If you see a guy with a massive scar on his right face and wearing a race bib, say hi!

By 8AM, we will be done with our 13 miles and sitting at O'Henry's drinking coffee.
