Hogbody,
Running has be tremendous for my mental health, work productivity, and physical health/lab results.
When I finish the Woodlands Full I will understand if I can be:
"Good" or just a normal office guy better off running 20 miles a week @ 10:15 and doing 5Ks for fun.
I have 29 weeks to train , focus, and commit to better nutrition before that decision will sort of be made for me based on the result. I'm going to continue running either way.

What’s your definition of good, Brah?

Roots,
That's the thing...I have no idea what "good" means to me or for me yet. It is relative & fluid.
25,000+ people ran the Houston Full this year and I'd bet there were 25,000 different definitions of "good" haha
Not good = hurt, hating it, going backwards...I do know that for sure.

Week 9 of my 18 Week plan in the books - cycled down this week after building 7 out of the last 8 weeks.
Monday - 4
Tuesday - 3
Wednesday - 4
Thursday - 4
Friday - 0
Saturday - 10
Sunday - 10
Ran all the weekday runs barefoot and the weekend runs were hill repeats in mid-day heat. There is big hill under the power lines near me, it's one mile warm up over, then each lap is 1 mile (up, down, back up, back down).
My plan is now to build until the end of September and then 3 week taper in October. I plan to peak b/w 120 - 140 mpw.

You ever get on Strava, Brah?
Not yet.
This morning was a sauna doing HIIT outside. Just ahead of a thunderstorm from the south blowing up off the gulf. Was planning on swimming until I saw the light show in the distance.

Y’all don’t run in the rain?
Running in the rain is one thing. Running in a tropical storm is another.

Funny thing is I got gooder when I stopped focus on being good but rather focused on having fun and enjoying it.

I definitely do and actually welcome it this time of the year. My point with the storms has to do more with my son's preschool being cancelled and the possibility that I would be locked in at work. Seems like we may be good now though.

Put in 6 miles Sunday on the high school track in the zero drop shoes. Felt a little weird at first and have some aches in areas that I haven’t before. I assume that’s the shoes working things differently.
This was a recovery run for me. 10 min miles and heart rate never went over 160.
I was curious so I took a look at a 3 mile run from this same time last year (this is roughly when I started running). I blistered a run at 12:30 min miles. My recovery pace is full 2 mins faster than my race pace from a year ago.

I'm shuffling around my plan to assume no running on Thursday and maybe Friday. I'm ~15 mi SE of downtown Houston and hoping that it doesn't shift any further West.
We didn't flood in Harvey, but I'm more concerned about the trees in our neighborhood. I've got three ~25 y/o Oak Trees in the front and back of my house that need trimming.

Did 4 miles (Total) of intervals this AM. Usually run at sundown but wanted to get a jump on the day and was up checking weather anyway. Hopefully I can get my Thursday run in without any major incidents between then and now...

Do people find that "carb loading" has a real benefit? at what distance do you really need to carb load?

Did a 25 mile ride and was suppose to do a 6 mile brick run. Plans were thwarted by Laura. I decided to go get some essentials instead.
And I was kind of tired from the ride.
Looks like make-up tomorrow.

7 miles this AM at 9:30 pace. Little slower than last week, but it was 77 this AM with 99% humidity. It did everything BUT rain.
My Hal Higdon half marathon training book came in the mail today. Will start on that training plan next month now that I have a good base built up.

I personally don’t really do it. I mean shite, if you didn’t do it for Badwater I’d say it’s pointless. Haha

I’d say half marathon and up. I havent felt the need to load up for 10k, 5k etc.
Felt like it benefitted me last time I ran a half

Midweek long run/workout 14 minute fartlek w/minute jog. Was way harder than it should have been. My turnover was trash, which is a coincidence because that’s where I think the “Speed Elite Hyper” is going. Can’t win em all, folks. Happy speed day.

Treadmill training -- I've been doing tempos and other runs on the treadmill lately, as I've been getting off work @ 2:30 (hottest part of day), so it best fits my schedule for now. As soon as it cools off a bit, I will shift the focus to primarily running outside as usual.
That said, I feel like my legs can't go fast enough to get my HR up to tempo pace, without feeling like I will fly off the back of the treadmill. I get more of a tempo HR with a much easier pace in the heat. I'm definitely getting a benefit from the turnover work on the treadmill and I guess I can adjust the elevation up until I hit tempo HR. Still trying to adjust to treadmill training, as I'm definitely not a fan. Just not sure if I trust it to get the same benefit as running outdoors with all the other factors.
