I’ve got norovirus and have been nearly bed ridden for two days. I haven’t missed a week in years so I’m worrying about it; however I’ve also heard it can be good to let your muscles have a break. Thanks

Never. You’ll have to start all over from day 1 of lifting. Yep, you’ve done it now…

It’s more than ok when you are bedridden.

It’s ok any other time for that matter. Rest is good too. Need to give your body time to recover.

I don't know what your goals for the gym are, but regardless, Yes, its actually good every once in a while to "De-load". Sometimes if you are working out 5-6 times a week, eating proper intake meals, and getting plenty of rest in between, its ok to take a De-load week every once in a while. Even if you only work out a few days a week, its still good to De-load. You are bedridden, so you can't control that, just rest up try to get as much protein in as you can and stay safe man. You'll be back in no time

You've been going to the gym weekly for years and have never heard that sometimes it is good to rest?

If you want to make yourself feel better about a long break watch some Mike Mentzer stuff.

I’ve trained 3 times in 3 weeks. Sometimes you get burned out, sick, life happening. It’s fine, you’ll get back what was lost quickly.

That's me right now. Got sick, started a new hobby, got busy around the house. Started easing back in to the gym last week, but I'm not sure I'll do another 5 day a week routine until Squatober.

Its perfectly fine. I take off 1 week every 90 days. Some people take 2 weeks off. I feel much better after a week off. If you train hard with intensity and are natty breaks are a must.

If you go to the gym with norovirus you’ll either shite yourself on the squat rack or get everyone else sick. Either way you’ll soon have the place to yourself.

I worked out with walking pneumonia one time. I don't do that any more.

I usually do a week off every 8 or 12 weeks

My lifts are great after and my conditioning seems to be improved after the recovery week

I just took about 5 days off after about 50 days of going 4 times or so a week

Worked 13 days straight and just didn't have the energy

Back on my regular work schedule now and resumed my lifting yesterday. I probably needed a few days of rest

Ronnie Coleman claimed he would take a couple months off the gym after his Olympia titles.

I don’t think the time off is a bad thing but it’s easy to get out of the routine once you have time off. 1 week can easily lead to two weeks off.

Yep, lots of the Olympia bodybuilders typically lay off training and gear after that contest and will get back to both a few months out from the Arnold. I think Ronnie’s layoff was all through the holidays during his prime years so a week isn’t going to kill much gains.

I think deloading entirely means detraining to some extent, but unless you have a powerlifting meet next week, I wouldn’t worry about it. This is a lifelong commitment.
