Depends on what you're looking for in a meal plan/diet.
For keto/LCHF people it's a no go, but for low fat high protein people it can be worked into their macros in moderation. Depends on the route you take as to what works best for you.

Depends on your version of healthy. If you're getting the bulk oatmeal, plain, then it's a clean food in moderation. It's all carbs. You have to remember that. So if the rest of your day is filled with carbs, then yes, that oatmeal can be bad for you.

Now if you're getting the maple oatmeal then adding 3 tablespoons of peanut butter, then no, it's not good for you. Now it's becoming an issue as it turns into a high caloric meal.

Determine what your overall diet looks like, then it's easier to judge if it's "healthy"

Oatmeal is a very low calorie food - if you eat the plain stuff. Start adding fruit, milk and sugar and all that and the calories add up quick. 1 cup of cooked oatmeal (a good amount) is 150 calories. But it's about 40g carbs. So if you're low carb I'd stay away. But for purely calorie counting it's quite healthy, yes.

I thought a half a cup dry = 150 cals = 1 cup cooked. Every different website I go to says something different though. So I legitimately don't know lol.

It is not good for you. There's virtually no vitamin in them and a bunch of carbs. So if you are going to do that you might as well as eat whatever you want. Instant oatmeal has significantly more vitamins than stuff like steel oats. The instant does have a nice sugar payload to it too though.

Quaker oats is in lawsuit for leaving glysophate on their oats. Even kicked out of Taiwan for it in 2016. I don't know if that has been resolved yet.

Oatmeal is perfectly fine. Has good fiber content. The problem is when you start loading empty calories into it. I actually like savory oatmeal more than sweet; instead of grits and eggs I like oatmeal and eggs. Cook your oatmeal, pan fry a couple of eggs, 14g of 2% sharp cheddar, mix it all together.. hell yes.

Good for you as in health wise....fine in moderation especially whole steel cut.

For weight loss it is 100% perfectly fine if it fits in your macros.

Real simple, stay in a caloric deficit while eating a minimum of 0.8g of protein per KG of bodyweight and you can fill the rest of calories from what ever foods you enjoy. for weight loss, oatmeal is no different than chocolate, fruit or any other carb. Also for weight loss 100 calories from any carb is the same as 100 calories from fat.

For weightloss only, a calorie is a calories so long as protein minimum is met.

Oatmeal is a very healthy food for you if it's plain. It has a ton of minerals and fiber, and for being a carb, it has a pretty decent amount of protein. It is also very filling.

Start adding a bunch of sugar and cream tho and it gets a lot worse for you.

No such thing as good or bad foods

It's simply a food that contains 150 calories per 1/2 cup dry and adequate fiber and protein to carb ratio

If you enjoy it and can fit it in your macros, then eat it. I eat 1 cup per day

If you are new to lifting then yes, other wise you are going to have to be so strict on diet it's gonna be hard. It can be done even with a little lax in diet and I mean a little. But no offense I doubt you are capable of the intensity of effort it takes to pull it off. Very few on this board are.

But what you can do is focus on strength while being in a slight deficit and used timed cardio to strip the fat while getting strong as frick. If you do that, once you get to the bf% you are happy with and are ready to put on muscle you can use the newly acquired strength to pack muscle on fast.

So to answer your question, yes you can but it's hard as shite.

To the people claiming there are good and bad foods for weight loss stfu please. When we speak of fat loss/ weight loss there is no such thing as good or bad.

Dallas tiger said it pretty good above me. Meet your protein and fiber goals, and the. Make everything else fit your caloric goals. Extra protein is just lagniappe.

Depends on your actual diet. If you are just counting calories, it's great. If you are doing keto, then it's not a good idea to eat it. However, the food itself is healthy IMO. I'm not talking about the prepackaged oats but the old fashioned oats.
