I have been doing the Starting Strength LP for about 2 months now after reading the book front to back prior to make sure form was as good as possible. I highly recommend this book, it is extremely informative. The deadlift has changed my appearance a good bit and I actually feel strong pretty much everywhere.

I avoided it all my life due to being scared I would mess my back up but with proper education and practice on form it is by far my favorite lift.

I believe it is my favorite lift because I haven’t gotten to a weight I couldn’t do 3 times yet. I am sure once I start getting heavier I will hate it as well.

Not sure where you are at but once you get to the 400ish range you’ll start missing lifts because your grip strength which is frustrating because you have the strength / power outside of your hands. That’s when you see folks cheating with straps

There’s nothing wrong with using straps on heavier weights to keep control of the bar. Working your traps, hamstrings, glutes, quads, abs where your forearm/grip strength isn’t there is still better than not lifting because you think it’s “cheating”.

I have noticed that when my form is damn near perfect the lift itself feels "shorter" if that makes sense. I guess it is because I am not using any wasted movements with good form.

You suck as a poster. I really wish you stopped saying stupid stuff.

Straps are cheating? GTFO

If you’re not competing focus on improving your grip strength so it’s a natural lift

train yourself early to use the hook grip; avoid the mixed grip. even though it may feel easier in your hands at the beginning ive found the hook much more natural in long-term. the bar rising straight up and your not having to focus on countering the twist will help you focus more on proper posterior chain cues and firing. just my 2c

I only do hook grip. I watched a video of a guy tear his bicep using alternate grip and I can't get that image out of my head.

I'm still not sure why this even exists

Because it lets you lift a whole lot more weight than double overhand and doesn't involve the pain or learning curve of hook grip.

My step brother is a power lifter and can deadlift 600+ and he still uses mix grip. I tried Hook the other night for my lighter sets, and I didn't like it. I might try it some more but I'm gonna stick with Mixed for now.

Deadlifts give you the good soreness. You know, the kind you don't really feel until you do the first warmup good morning and then you find all the deadlifts.

Main reason I like it is because I have noticed my forearms have taken on some serious definition and I know this sounds weird but my hands have gotten thick

It took a couple of weeks to get the hang of it but I am glad I stuck with it.
