GCF hasn't made a statement yet. Surely they are going to abandon the sinking ship right? At this point it isn't even a political choice, all of the major sponsors and athletes have dropped CF. Makes no sense to stay with brand.

So is there someone to fill the void of CrossFit? Do these gyms just go independent and stay independent or is there something like iron tribe, soflete ready to jump in CrossFits place?
I'm just intrigued by the whole CrossFit affiliate dynamic, it had no value to gyms other than the name. So you had to pay CrossFit HQ to just use a name and they gave you nothing else in return.

I'd think there'd be someone like Rogue take over the organization of elite competitions. Gyms would be either independent or have a much less involved board type deal.

Holy shite, Castro is still around? I remember when he chased off every legit SME they had around 2009 or so.
Anyone who has been around Couch Glassman shouldn't be surprised by this. The guy has a very high opinion of himself and very little filter. I get what he was trying to say, and he isn't wrong, but the he should have shown a little more tact here.

Well that's just a franchise model. The name carries a lot of weight, you know exactly what you are getting when you step into a crossfit gym. If its "X Strength and Conditioning" or whatever it could be any jabroni
A lot of people don't like crossfit and I have a problem with a good amount of things they do, but just about anyone that even has a plantet fitness membership knows what it is.

You get to use the name "CrossFit" in your branding, which is big for getting people into your gym if they are looking for gyms that do crossfit programming
a person looking to do Crossfit is going to Google "crossfit gyms in my area", not "functional fitness gyms in my area"

Greg needs to sell ownership to CrossFit affiliates and let the individual gyms own shares of “CrossFit” so the sport isn’t run into the ground. Probably the only way to save the brand at this point and bring the former affiliates back into the fold. Seems like everyone has been tired of his leadership for years and CrossFit needs new blood to grow the sport. If not he’s just gonna run it right into the ground while a rebranded sport takes its place when the former affiliates create the same thing elsewhere with the help of rogue, Nike, nobull, and other financial backers.

About a year ago, I attended an event (nothing to do with Health & Fitness) that included a public speaker who mentioned Nike is making a concerted effort to move into more of the Health & Fitness area. He added that soon many people will be going to work out at their 'Nike' gym.
With how much power and size that Nike has, maybe they will fill part of this CF void.

Over the long run individual, established gyms will be fine without the CrossFit name and branding. In fact it might even be a good thing for gyms that have great trainers and good programming.
It could be apocalyptic for "professional" athletes and the games. For those folks the brand created value, community, merchandising and publicity, which lead to financial gain. Without the CrossFit brand to drive interest, it will be harder for those folks to distinguish themselves from just self-promoter, product endorser fitness people, especially the ones that wrapped themselves up in CrossFit as job/lifestyle/family, etc.
One posted said he viewed the future of the "CrossFit Sport" as a multi-league, international, possible Olympic event. Without the brand which elevated Crossfit, it could just become another fun, niche entertainment/athletic event, ala, galaxy/granite/intense obstacle/TV Titan event/fitness/whatever competitions. Without the brand these competitions have as much a chances as being elevated to Olympic level as Tough Mudder events.

If I’m a well known affiliate owner I’d use my voice to try and get the affiliates together to buy out Greg. Whatever that looks like. Save the brand and give the power to the owners on the class floor so the sport doesn’t get splintered into chaos. I still feel like the games and day to day competition aspect keeps a lot of people in the sport and draws people in from traditional BB and powerlifting.
I feel bad for all the games level athletes. I’m sure they are working behind the scenes to get something going to save the sport. Will be interesting to see what happens over the next month or 2.

I'd like to see Rogue pull a power play. They have the money and connections and basically outfitted the games already.
I'd think they stand the best chance in an evolving market because they have the revenue stream outside the name. Crossfit's big issue was always that they really only traded in the name.

my niece does competitive club volleyball in Houston. we went one weekend to watch her tournament and it was at a competing league's gym. It was a Nike club (hers was UA i think) and Nike had it's logo everywhere in there. not just on the home club's clothes and equipment, but a giant nike swoosh on the inside wall of the club along with a nike logo on every conceivable bit of branding the club had. combine that with the fact that them, adidas, or UA are signing contracts with High School athletic departments at this time and it's an interesting dynamic.

Over 300 gyms are out
That’s almost a million in fees he’s lost in 24 hours

I've heard mine is waiting to see if they fire Glassman or not. If they don't then I assume they'll disassociate.

Damn! I like Chandler.

I don't know the ins and outs of the business. Do they have a board of or anything or is it just Glassman over everyone else
Posted on 6/8/20 at 9:28 pm to Hulkklogan
Is Glassman’s show
What he says goes
What he says goes
Posted on 6/8/20 at 9:43 pm to StraightCashHomey21
So it'd be him stepping down and.. from what I know about the guy, he probably isn't doing that.
